Chapter 8

Glorification of Jesus in Old Testament

• Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

Glorification of Jesus in Old Testament

• 1 Cor. 10:4 …for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

“…like unto the Son of God.” Daniel 3:25

I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Daniel 7:13, 14

In New Testament Jesus’ Glorification is Witnessed by

Our Glorification of Him

• Have him seated on the throne of our

heart.

The former glory found in Moses and the Law in no way outshines the glory of the

Lord! Vs. 1-5• Earthly priests stood in the sanctuary administering

sacrifices – the greater is seated receiving the sacrifices.

• The earthly tabernacle was never meant to be eternal – the heavenly stands forever.

• Earthly sacrifices were made by law – the heavenly by oath.

• The earthly tabernacle was only a copy and shadows of the actual – the throne of God never changes.

• The earthly covenant, written and engraved in stone was fading – the covenant of blood reigns throughout eternity.

VS 6-9 The Christ Offers A More Excellent Ministry

• The better covenant would not have been needed if the first covenant had been faultless (8:7).

As Paul explains in Galatians, the purpose of the Law was not to impart spiritual life, but rather to reveal our sin so that we would be driven to faith in Christ as our only remedy (Gal. 3:19-24).

“Idea of Faultiness” – Four Things

• First, the New Covenant assumes man’s sinfulness and the Law’s inability to draw sinners near to God.

“Thou art a sinner!”

“I Will Remember

sins no more”

VS 6-9 “Idea of Faultiness” – Four Things cont…

• Second, the New Covenant reveals the heart of God.

• Third, those who turn back to the Old Covenant and strive to please God by law-keeping reject the New Covenant and the salvation by grace which God has provided through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Gal. 5:4).

• Fourth, the New Covenant has greater glory than the Old, in that it has the power to transform lives.
