Interoperability

Cab Radio standard is based on EIRENE, Baselines and

National Add-on’s

Cab Radios are subject to Interoperability

Cab Radios have to work seamless in each national network

Suppliers have to provide certificates of the European Notified

Body as well as of all National Authorities

Tests, lab costs, preparation of documents and invoices of the

authorities are very cost driving

(approximately 500 k€ for one new Software Release!)

Standard versus specific conditions

Cab Radio functionality is very close to the standards (EIRENE including Shunting

and public roaming as back-up)

On the other hand each type of train or loco has different environmental conditions

Therefore a lot of different types are available from the suppliers

Various central units

Various central units are available

Rack versions for assembling into existing cabinets

Closed box versions (IP 54) for assembling into harsh environment

Various accessories are available

Different antennae’s,

Different cable types

Different adapter boxes

Different loudspeakers

Various interfaces into train / loco

Interface to the intercom / announcement system of the train

Interface to existing analogue radios for migration purpose

Interface to the onboard computer for submitting of loco

data as well as for controlling of the cab radio

Interface to the balise readers

Interfaces (contacts) for warning and alerting functions

Interface to the juridical recorder and train buses (MVB, …)

Interface to the electronic book timetable

Air interface for data exchange via GPRS, taken over by

a second GSM-R transceiver module

Different loudspeakers
