Rule 2• Use a pair of commas

in the middle of the sentence to set off:• Clauses, phrases,

words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence

• My dad, the oldest in his family, hates spiders.

• Mary, my teacher, loves to dance.

Rule 3Use commas to separate three or more words, phrases, or clauses written in a series.

• I like baseball, basketball, and soccer.

• Do you want ice cream, cake, cookies, or brownies for dessert?

Rule 4• Use commas to set

off• Geographical places• Items in dates

(except month and day)

• Address (not street number and name)

• And titles in names

My oldest sister said “Lets let the youngest pick.” Since I am the youngest, I said, “how about Olive Garden. There breadsticks are so good” Everyone decided they wanted to go they’re to, so we went. My oldest sister the one who plays volleyball, thought it was a great pick. “You’re picks are amazing,” she said “So you can pick all of the time?” (17)
