Friendship WeekTaking Action TOGETHER
As a school we have been very fortunate in receiving 430 trees from the Woodland Trust. This pack of trees is specifically designed to attract wildlife to our school.
On Wednesday and Thursday this week all children in our school plus children from the Nursery and some High schools will be planting these trees together.
The hashed area show where we will be planting our trees.
Your teacher will tell you later in the week where and when you will be planting your trees.
What the trees could look like in 10 years.
The Importance of trees in our World
Trees provide a vital habitat for wildlife - plays a part in the survival of butterflies, moths, dormice, hedgehogs, birds, insects Suppress noise pollution, an ever increasing problem in urban environments.
Trees add aesthetic value to the landscape – make it more attractive. They act as a visual screen
Trees stabilise soil and act as a windbreak, shelter
Trees play an increasing role a natural resource
Trees Clean the Soil
Trees Produce Oxygen – All animals need this to live
Trees Clean the AirTrees help cleanse the air by intercepting airborne particles, Trees Shade and CoolShade resulting in cooling is what a tree is best known for. Shade from trees reduces the need for air conditioning in summer. In winter, trees break the force of winter winds, lowering heating costs.
Trees Are Carbon SinksTo produce its food, a tree absorbs and locks away carbon dioxide in the wood, roots and leaves. Carbon dioxide is a Green House gas.
