Strategic Plan, Part I: Conceptualizing a Business
I have a child who is artistic and throughout his life I have searched for various programs
and facilities that would enhance his learning ability. Now that he is an adult there are only a few
places, which offer continued life lessons for adults with autism. Most of the facilities are faced
with no money or support. The government has reduced funding to the nonprofit organizations
because of the poor economic conditions. There is usually not enough staff to assist an
individual with his or her needs. Your loved one can be reduced to sitting in the house all day
with no stimulation and nowhere to go. Then the idea came to me that these adults needed some
training in how to make it in today’s society. Transitions are a large part of any school or work
day, as we move to different activities or locations (Hume, K, 2010).
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center-For Adults with Autism is the new
organization I am introducing into the marketplace. In today’s society there are many families
facing the dilemma of placing a child with autism who has become an adult in a comfortable
setting while he or she has to work. Individuals with Autism need to have the opportunity to
mingle with other people and take part in challenging activities (Rappeport, 2011). My daycare
for these adults will provide different services, including improvement on his or her reading,
writing, and social skills, therapeutic classes, cultural activities as well as a place to go to
socialize with other people.
Mission Statement
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center-For Adults with Autism mission is to
provide a safe and nurturing environment founded upon caring, respect and compassion toward
each individual’s abilities and disabilities.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 3
Vision Statement
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center’s vision is to become the leading service
provider of an adult daycare service for Autism in the world. Helping people with disabilities
will be the key to our success.
Principles and Values
Principals are described as the essential truth that functions as the groundwork for a
system of ideas or actions or of a chain of reasoning (Pearce & Robinson, 2009). It is also
concluded for a chain that values, beliefs or ideas which are important to the organization
(Pearce & Robinson, 2009). Both principals and values are vital to any organization. Vernon’s
Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center is grounded in principles and value of its founder. Vernon’s
Bright Minds Adult Daycare Centers programs and services will provide compassionate care for
our customers.
Our adult center will provide quality in all programs and be held responsible to those who
employ and maintain our services. Making individuals and their families stronger is a key factor
on which our organization stands. Everyone linked to our business will be treated with respect
and dignity. Activities will be executed in an ethical and truthful way. We are dedicated to
improving the skills and talents of our employees and supporting their involvement. Vernon’s
Bright Minds Adult Daycare Centers will provide a one-of-a-kind service. We will accept any
opportunity and challenge to provide service by becoming creative, flexible and suitable.
Strategic Direction
The company’s vision, mission, and values are vital to the strategic direction that
Vernon’s Bright Minds wants to achieve. The direction is aim toward promoting independence.
Supporting each individual and encouraging him or her to realize his or her hopes and dreams.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 4
Our job is to offer flexibility and choice. The ongoing challenge is to provide services that are
personalized.
We will also propose ways that do not compromise the future well-being of the company
and that will help Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare achieve sustainability. One way we will
accomplish this goal will be to hire the adequate staff. Each staff member will be professionally
trained and certified in counseling, physical fitness, diet, and job training. The National Autism
Society offers classes and certification for all areas of autism (The National Autistic Society,
2011). Over the next three years our organization will create and put into operation an external
and internal communication strategy that advocates and conveys the importance of early
education and care for all individuals with autism. By accomplishing these tasks this will build
the internal infrastructure in order to support the company’s vision.
Customer Needs
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center will evaluate and screen each customer to
meet his or her specific needs. This will be done periodically throughout the customers stay with
us in order to continually improve their experience with our organization. The customer’s needs
are the driving force in making this business a success. Because we offer not only a one-on-one
service but we also acknowledge each level of improvement with a certificate of excellence
award. This award gives the customer a sense of achievement and encourages him or her to
move to the next level. Our goal is total independence for our customer.
Conclusion
To have a successful business one must have a vision, mission and value statement. This
describes the organization’s strategic direction. The Vernon’s Bright Mind Adult Daycare has
the right foundation, and is sure to attract a multitude of customers. It will continue to remain
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 5
focused on the needs of the customer. We will function with the utmost integrity because we
have an ethical and social responsibility to our customers and the community. Our efforts today
will produce independent and productive artistic adults for the future.
Strategic Plan, Part II: SWOTT Analysis
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center-For Adults with Autism is a care facility
for the developmentally disable adult. Our facility is a place that is available to individuals, who
are over the age of 18; these adults are not able to stay home alone while their parent or parents
go to work. We can accommodate 50 adults each of which will have our undivided attention. In
our organization adults with autism have the chance to socialize with other people and take part
in exciting and challenging activities (Rappeport, 2011). We intend to provide the highest level
of patience and care to every individual.
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center will be an asset to the developmental
disable adult community as well as the community as a whole. Our goal is to meet the social,
physical, mental, recreational, educational, and vocational needs of each of our customers. We
want everyone to leave at the end of the day feeling relax and ready to come back the next day.
Parents of autistic adult children can feel relieved knowing their child is in a safe and healthy
environment.
A SWOTT Analysis is defined as an audit and the analysis of a strategic position of the
business and the environment (Pearce & Robinson, 2009). The main purpose is to summarize
the conditions that the organizations leadership must address during strategic planning. In week
three of my Integrated Business class I was instructed to complete a Strategic plan, Part II:

Economic
The cost of living has affected everyone. Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center is
aware of the economic crises in America. With rising cost within our organization and a decline
of new customers we must look for ways to increase our customer base. This may be in the form
of creating new programs or obtaining grants to subsidize the cost.
Legal and Regulatory
When considering legal and regulatory forces and trends there are laws that govern
treatment of the handicap and what concessions need to be made to the building that houses the
company. Politics can cause a threat to these endeavors because no one looks at the problems
and the resolutions; they are looking at who brings the issues up. We have an opportunity to
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 8
bring information before the governing body and make changes for the better, for example, better
benefits for people with autism and increased federal funding.
Culture
The culture of Vernon’s Bright Minds is one that promotes, trust and learning. Everyone
has a welcoming nature. It is our idea that everyone has that attitude for years to come. Any
employees who are disgruntled will be worked with on an individual basis. We will have
morning progress meetings to review the customers previous day’s activities as well as stress
relief activities for the employees and the daycare adults at the center. By being available and
honest with our clients we will build trust.
Competitive Analysis
It is important to know what the competition is doing soon because an analysis will help
to keep Vernon’s Bright Minds in the front running. The biggest threat is if another company
offer things that cause us to be out performed. We must keep an open mind and keep abreast of
all new ideas in this area.
Goals
Our goal is to have superior customer service, which will include zero complaints. In the
event there is a lack of satisfaction Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare will put the customer
first and show respect and compassion to every opinion and concern an individual has. We are
dedicated to our mission in providing a safe environment to every individual. One of our main
concerns is to educate parents and the community about autism. Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult
Daycare Center will increase it’s annually revenue by 10% per year and will ultimately be
number one in the next five years.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 9
Technological
Technological changes happen every day, and we will try to keep up with all updates. If
we are not able to make the necessary changes we could become behind and lose business. We
must continue training for our employees by requiring them to take two continuing education
classes each year. Our employees will need to be people who except change and can move
forward in a timely manner. Our organization is working with a team of scientist to research
ways to make autism less challenging for customers.
Resources
With the economy the way it is today resources could present a problem. There may not
be as many customers as expected, which would lead to reduction in the workforce. This would
cause the customer to get a lesser quality of service. We would have to put in a contingency plan
in order that we adequately use our monetary resources and also our people resources.
Organizational Change Adaptation
Our facility is one that has to adapt well to change because this is what keeps our
organization functioning and factor helps Vernon’s Bright Minds Daycare Center to stay in
business. Vernon’s flat structure and team centered on functions will allow us to develop a
competency in providing comprehensive care that centers on the quality of life needs of clients.
Value Chain Operations
As we look at the value chain operations the company will take excellent care of each
individual from the time he or she enters the building and until they become a functioning
member of society. Each step of the process will be reviewed for continuous improvement.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 10
Hypothesis
H0- Adults with autism will have no change in quality-of-life or emotional well-being.
H1- Creative activities cause adults with autism the ability to become more creative.
H2 -Creative activities do not cause adults with autism the ability to become more creative.
Conclusion
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center will pursue the strategic plans, which are
listed above. It is our duty to fulfill every goal and objective in the organization. Our facility will
continue to support people with disabilities and their families as well as providing educational
knowledge to the community. Internal and external factors are important in starting a new
business this determines how successful the organization will be become.
Strategic Plan, Part III: Balanced Scorecard
This week’s assignment is to prepare a balance scorecard to determine the business
strategic objective. A balance scorecard is designed to develop a clear vision and plan; it also can
identify strategies that originate from the business’s vision and mission statements. The four
main objectives of a balance scorecard are financial perspective, the customer’s perspective, and
processes or internal operations perspectives, and the growth, and learning perspective (Pearce
&Robinson, 2009).
Financial Perspective is a very important tool to the business because of how situations
are handled. Financial perspectives answer the question: Is the company’s strategy, operation,
and implementation connecting to the end result. The financial perspectives include financial-
based measures that indicate if the pursued strategy is working.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 11
Customer Perspective focuses on the viewpoint of the customer. The challenge is how
well the business is serving its target customers to meet the financial objectives. Customers look
at businesses; by the way they handle time, customer satisfaction, customer retention, and
measures connected by service availability and price (Business Excellence, 2011).
Processes or Internal Operations Perspectives are crucial to the success of the company.
This process determines if the customers and shareholders are happy. Applying the balance
scorecard adds the feature of incorporating improvement (Business Excellence, 2011).
Learning and Growth Perspective is mainly centered on the employee. It focuses on the
human capital, culture, and information elements that contribute to the firm’s ability to create
value and implement its strategy.
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare-For Adults with Autism vision statement:
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare vision is to become the leading service provider of an
adult daycare service for autism in the world. Helping people with disabilities will be the key to
our success.
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare mission statement: Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult
Daycare mission is a safe and nurturing environment founded upon caring, respect, and
compassion toward each individual’s abilities and disabilities, which will in turn help him or her
achieve their independence. Our organization will also offer professional assistance to better
educate parents and professionals in the community about autism.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 12
Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Balanced Scorecard
Financial Prospective: When starting a business there is limited capital for what the
business wishes to accomplish. An adult daycare center is no different. Therefore, it is vital to
target the financial resources that are available for the achievement of the goals that has been set
for the organization’s mission and vision statement. Our objectives are to increase our target
customer market by 10% within the next two years, and our goal an additional 5% in our sales
within one year. Each of these objectives will help increase the company’s market share to 51%
and make Vernon’ Bright Minds Adult Daycare become number one in the adult daycare field.
Customer Prospective: The customers of our business are the adults, and the parents who
bring his or her adult child to our facility. Before Vernon Bright Minds Daycare can increase our
customer base of 20% within a two-year period we will have to maintain and develop a
relationship with our existing customers as well. It is important to meet and exceed our
customer’s goals. This is one reason if there are any of our parents or clients unhappy it is our
duty to fix whatever issues and give 100% satisfaction within a 90-day period. We know that it is
not always easy to satisfy everyone but at Vernon’s Bright Minds we believe in the highest level
customer service. Adults with autism are not easily accepted in the community mainly because
most people are not aware or have any knowledge of autism. These individuals are human beings
just like everyone else. Our organization will increase community acceptance by 50% within one
year by becoming an active networking participate through completing a pre and post survey.
Processes: One of the key factors to a company’s success is its organizational processes.
Processes are the key processes (not all) that contribute to the firm’s help your organization meet
its financial targets and deliver on its customer value proposition. Vernon’s Adult Daycare
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 13
Center will increase the education systems and levels by 10% within one year by demonstrating
to the parents of an autistic adult our center is providing a safe, wholesome environment whereas
other centers may have a similar objective. We will have a 1 to 2 ration with clients and
instructors this will put us at an advantage having less than others organizations by working with
individuals one-on-one. Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare will continue to monitor activities
on participates of the program. In today’s society technology is advancing daily. We will update
new discoveries and changes of 100% by 60 days in our customer preference and buying
patterns. The market focuses on businesses that continue to provide a different kind of value and
benefit to the customers need and his or her expectation of our service. This way we can keep a
handle on our competitors from stealing the company’s market share, customers, or any new
market in creation.
Learning and Growth: Vernon’s Bright Mind’s Adult Daycare can only achieve when
team players are involved in the centers operating processes. We are geared to fulfilling the
wants, and needs of the individuals under our care as well as the parents and the requirements of
the legal system. Vernon’s bright Minds Daycare will increase employee pay annually by one
percent, and no employee layoffs are effective immediately. This will boost morale and
attendance within the company. To keep our competitive edge there will be continual training for
our employees to help better educate him or her on the care for adults who have autism this will
consist of taking one course every six months.
Incorporating the four objectives into a balance scorecard is a way the business plan can
establish and manage an adult daycare. Vernon’s Adult Daycare Center has provided below a
balanced score card to provide a better understanding of the company’s mission and growth to
become successful.

Strategy is about change and getting the organization to change is not always easy.
Developing a balance scorecard by including the vision, mission, values, and SWOTT Analysis
helps to create various objectives in a business strategy. Our organization will implement the
four perspectives financial, customer, process, learning, and growth for Vernon’s Adult Minds
Daycare Center-For Adults with autism because these tools will be a powerful way to set, and
measure success to identify problems as they come up.
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation
My final goal in this endeavor is to provide a strategic plan in which I implement the
strategies, and tactics for my strategic objectives, measures and targets. I will include the
marketing and information technology strategies and tactics as well as a plan in developing three
methods to monitor and control a proposed plan. As a final point, I will recommend actions
needed to address ethical, legal, and regulatory issues Vernon Bright Minds Daycare Center
faces and how we can improve corporate citizenship.
The success of the company is dependent upon the strategic planning and decision-
making skills. Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare will focus on the company’s mission,
vision, value, and goal set as well as the short and long term goals set for the company. Our plan
is to center on measurable milestones to guide ongoing adjustments in course and action.
An important part of our marketing strategies consist of advertisement, direct mail, and
communications with other families with autistic family members. We will search different
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 16
health-related databases, and call several national organizations to be familiar with autism and
can provide additional documentation. To become successful we will focus on the basic
foundation of our business, for instance, the mission and vision statement, our short, and long
term goals, values and most important strategy. This is a part of the guidelines our organization
plans to accomplish.
We will monitor our success through technology. Vernon Bright Minds Adult Daycare
will set-up a webpage with details about our organization, location, hours of operation, and
staffing. Our webpage will also offer a questionnaire to our customers to receive feedback on any
concerns and ways to improve the business. Another idea, which will capture our audience’s
attention is by offering discounts to our web base members. In addition to putting out fliers in
public areas such as stores, gas stations, churches, and billboards are just a few of the ways to
gain new customers.
Next our company will have weekly meetings for managers as well as the employees to
discuss new plans to help improve the business strategic plans. Monitoring and controlling
meetings can bring out new ideas that can help increase public awareness for the company. In
these meetings there will be discussions on guidelines, effectiveness, new products, and daily
and weekly schedules for the staff. Being consist with these meetings will be vital to the success
of the company because it is a way to monitor and measure the goals financially and
operationally.
In addressing the ethical, legal, and regulatory issues facing the company Vernon’s Adult
Daycare Center will hold the highest standards in given quality care, service to everyone in our
organization and the community. We are making a commitment to ongoing education and
Final Strategic Plan and Presentation 17
professional growth. Our staff will be properly trained and certified. They will respect the rights
of each individual and maintain a confidentiality concerning each member, which is required by
law. Our members and staff will have the training to recognize abuse or any harmful acts to our
members and immediately report to the proper authorities. The company will comply above and
beyond with the state board concerning any regulatory issues we face. At all times our
organization will be properly staffed and secure a safe and healthy environment for each
member.
“Corporate Citizenship is recognition that a business, corporation or business-like
organization, has social, cultural and environmental responsibilities to the community in which it
seeks a licence to operate, as well as economic and financial ones to its shareholders or
immediate stakeholders (Corporate Citizenship Research Unit, 2005)”.This simply means to
Vernon Bright Minds Adult Day-care that we aim toward higher stands and provide a means for
a better quality of life for the community where we operate and to our shareholders (Corporate
Citizenship Research Unit, 2005).
Identifying the strategic and tactics and applying the strategic objectives, measures, and
targets of Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare are vital to the success of our company. We will
not forget our mission and the reason we exist. Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare is
grounded in providing a safe and nurturing environment, which embodies care, respect, and
compassion toward our clients. Our strategies and goals reflect our mission statement, and we
continue to progress even in a down economy we will know that all our planning is right on
target.
