How marine animals have young

Fairy penguins build their nest in a burrow.

Both the mother and father build the nest, keep the eggs warm and feed the chicks.

Turtles lay their eggs in a hole they dig into a sandy beach.

Turtles do not look after their young.Their young must find their own food and protection.

Fish lay eggs. The young fish also look after themselves.

Some sharks give birth to live young.

Some sharks and rays lay eggs. The eggs are camouflaged to look like seaweed.

All baby sharks and rays look after themselves.

Female seahorses lay their eggs into the male’s pouch.

Baby seahorses hatch and leave the male’s pouch.

Crabs, cuttlefish, shellfish, seastars and most other marine creatures lay very small eggs.

Their tiny young float in the sea.
