It’s a pleasure to share with you a brief information about a historical time of my life, when I was the Dean of The Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. University of The Gambia during the years 2000 - 2002

The Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences was founded in October of 1999.

We arrived at The Gambia on 20 July 2000, our staffwas integrated by nine Professors. We were received by the President of The Gambia Dr. Jamet.

Second challenge: The majority of them, don’t used teaching active methods with basic clinical linkage.Advantage: The course will begin in OctoberThird challenge: Professional exam for second year students in the subjects of Morphology, Biochemistry, Physiology and Community Medicine, led by Professors from prestigious universities of West Africa, all graduates of the First World Universities. Here the fate of the Faculty was played,

First challenge: Only the biochemistry Professor and me spoke fluent English, the rest had no experience of lecturing in this language.

CHALLENGES

•To organize an intensive instructional support to students who understood even on Saturdays and Sundays. •Teachers must increase their English proficiency

Results: Only one student suspended two subjects with approval in the second round. These results strongly impacted, government officials, university, students, families, and Gambian people in general.

We were congratulated by Professors from the Universities of West Africa held visiting academic assessment of our students, emphasizing the pedagogical expertise our staff.

We also received congratulations from the Rector. the University Council and the Higher authorities of The Gambia

From this moment, I was officially appointed as Dean of the Faculty, for since I came to this country, I served in that role on an interim
