Each you are unique:

• Think of something about yourself that is unique or interesting

• Pick something no one in this class would know

• Keep it short and simple• Write the information on your

card• Do not include identifying

information like age, gender or name

Here are some ideas• Places you’ve been or would

like to go• Experiences you’ve had or

would like to have• Things you have done or

would like to do• Hobbies you have or would

like to have• Awards you have received or

contests you have won• Famous or historical relatives• Interesting genealogy or

family history

Take a card – any card

• Give me your cards to shuffle

• Pick a card and check that it is not yours or anyone you know

• If you pick your own or someone you think you recognize put it back and pick again

The Game Is Afoot• Its time to play Sherlock

Holmes• Everyone stand up and walk

around the room talking to each other

• Try to find the person on your card by asking indirect questions about each other

• Do not read the card and ask if they are the person

• The idea is to play detective and find your person without letting them know what you are after just like Sherlock Holmes or Columbo

The Interview

• When you find your person interview them by asking them the questions on the interview sheet

• Write down their answers for the second part of this activity

• Get to know each other

You have 30 minutes

Time’s Up

Introductions• I need a volunteer• Thank you please ask your

person to come to the front of the class with you

• Introduce your person using the interview sheet

• Tell us your person’s interesting fact from the card

• You may sit down while your person introduces his/her person

• Has everyone introduced their person and been introduced?

Let’s Talk

How did you feel and how do you feel now about:

• Interacting with each other• Talking about your self and

others • Speaking in front of the class • Feelings of isolation and

belonging• Diversity and similarity• Other observations about this

activity

I enjoyed learning about you tonight and I hope you also enjoyed learning about each other.

I am looking forward to working with you this quarter and hope you all feel the same.

Throughout this quarter as we will explore how adults learn I hope this activity will become more meaningful to you as well.
