Lesson Goal: As part of an inter-disciplinary lesson, continue writing an “authentic” short story.

1. Write a first person short story in which the main character is a post-9/11 Arab American.
2. Apply the 6-step writing process: 1) Pre-write 2) Rough draft 3) Edit 4) Type 5) Proofread 6) Final copy—no errors
Starter #1:
Today and tomorrow we are going to use class time as a “writing lab.” You will do the following (please write these steps on your notebook paper):
1) Create a pre-write—brainstorm ideas as they come to mind.2) Write your story—this is called your “rough draft.”3) Edit your hand-written rough draft (“fix” problem spots)4) Type your rough draft and save it to your flash drive.5) Proofread your typed story (read it and correct errors)6) Key in corrections on your Word document7) If you finish in class by Friday, you may request permission to
print out story
