Student Experience

Who do we work with?

Preparing for the Year in Industry

During Year 1 students are expected:

• To have their CV reviewed by one of the team ready to send out for applications

• To complete the Career Development Course• To be ready to apply for placements at the start

of year 2

You will receive:• Access to our Placements Database• A weekly digital placements bulletin• CV reviews and approval processes by industry

experts

What to expect… Year One

During Year 2 students have weekly lectures providing support and guidance on areas such as:

• Application Forms

• Skills Assessment & Psychometric Tests

• Interview skills and mock interviews; face to face, telephone and Skype.

• Assessment Centres

• Teamwork

• Work Ethics

• Health & Safety Rules and Regulations

What to expect… Year Two

Whilst out on your placement:

• You will have an academic mentor who will maintain regular contact.

• A Year in Industry Tutor will (pandemic allowing!) visit you twice at your workplace.

• You will complete a professional development portfolio, which will constitutes your first step towards chartership.

What to expect… Industry Year

In order to remain on the scheme and qualify for the Year in Industry placement you will need to:

• Obtain at least a 55% average in year 1.

• Have at least a 55% average at the end of Semester 1 in Year 2, with no supplementary exams.

• Have completed the Career Development Course from Swansea Employability Award by the end of Semester 1 in year 2.

• Complete a portfolio during your placement year, which will be assessed.

• Skills Day• A great chance to network and chat to companies about what they want to see from applicants
