Today you will:

• Learn about how an e-mail is processed once it has been sent

• Learn some advantages and disadvantages of using e-mail

• Learn how to use e-mail correctly

• Learn how to prepare and send e-mails for different purposes

What does E-mail stand for?

• Electronic mail

• Why do people use E-mail?

What do you need to send an E –mail?

• Computer!

• Internet Connection and Internet service provider (ISP)

• Mail Client software e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Oregano

• An e – mail address e.g. name@service_provider.co.uk

What happens when an e-mail is sent?

• The message is transmitted via the Internet to the ISP.

• The ISP store your message on their “File server”

• As soon as the person that you have sent the message to logs on thy can retrieve their messages from the File server using their own e-mail client

What is good about E-mail?

• Send messages instantly

• Very cheap (you don’t have to buy a stamp)

• You can send the same message to a large number of people

What is bad about e-mail?

• Junk mail

• Sometimes people don’t check their mail often enough, so urgent messages are read too late

• Not everyone has an e-mail address
