Suitable soils and crop management (Nitrogen: Urea)

Durum Wheat: WHAT & HOW?

DURUM WHEATGRAIN

- High protein content

- Huge bulks

- Homogeneus

- The same over time

Huge amount of seed

Rigorous grain bulking(no admisture at harvest and storing )

Maintenance of seed purity

Durum Wheat: PROJECT STRATEGY

Durum Wheat: CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS

Minimum quality requirements protein content of 10.5%.

A base price (= prevailing local market price for bread wheat : 700Birr per quintal)A premium (10 Birr for each 0.1% increment of protein) till a

Supply Contract

between the Cooperatives and Unions and the pasta F actories

A premium (10 Birr for each 0.1% increment of protein) till amaximum of 12 % protein (850 Birr per quintal)

SARC-quality laboratory as a third party in the contract (for its certifiedassessment of protein content, humidity, etc.)

OTMDB as supervisor and facilitator (meetings & workshop, monitoring of contract’

implementation)

The total quantity of grain sold was 450 tons .

Introducing the delivery of high quality seeds to g rain producers’ Coop. on a CREDIT BASIS

The project has targeted one grain producer coopera tive which has received high quality seeds on a credit basis
