Description/terms

• Adrenocortical: Regarding or made by the adrenal gland, which produces steroid hormones.

• Anabolic Steroids: Steroids that promote tissue growth by creating protein in an attempt to enhance muscle growth. Testosterone (the male sex hormone) is the main steroid.

• Androgen is any natural or synthetic compound, usually a steroid hormone, that stimulates or controls the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics. This includes the activity of the male sex organs and development of male secondary sex characteristics. Androgens are also the original anabolic steroids. The primary, and most well-known, androgen is testosterone.
