Citizens of Gray - As your Mayor Pro-Tem, I shall with the other council members to employ sound fiscal management procedures and policies to provide necessary services for our community. I personally believe, neither Federal, State, nor local governments should continually reach into the wallets of our citizens when other avenues such as, fair tax assessments on all properties and the elimination of waste and increased productivity would accomplish the same thing.

Magnolia Partners take 18-day trip

The Magnolia Partners Travel Club of Magnolia State Bank recently returned from a wonderful, 18-day trip on the Lewis and Clark Trail and the Rocky Mountains. Among the sites visited were the Arch at St. Louis, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier National Park, Cody (Wyo.) Rodeo, and Wisconsin Dells, as well as the Mall of the Americas. Included in the trip were the House on the Rock and Truman’s

Library. Many different types of wildlife were seen on this Northwestern United States trip. This was an exceptionally good tour with a good time had by all. Going from Gray were Bobby and Marguerite May. If you are interested in traveling with this group, contact Ed Sanders, direc-tor, at (478) 374-3418, ext. 163.

Exchange Club of Jones County President-elect Chris Smarr presented a check for $718 to Robin Jones to be used for Jones County’s Veterans Appreciation Day in November. The club raised the money at their quarterly bingo, which took place Aug. 7. The Jones County Rotary Club also donated $500.

Greed, betrayal, revenge, conspiracy, bioindustrial espionage, and murder are all aspects of a novel whose author is currently living in Gray.

The novel Spydentity, pub-lished in June, was written by Kevin Downs, who has lived in Gray since 2000. The book is available online at Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, and on his own website, www.kevindowns.com.

Downs said he moved to Georgia from Michigan to appraise homes during the housing boom and decided to stay. The author was born at Fort Rucker, Ala., and he grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Mich. His father was a decorated Army officer and his stepfather a former CIA agent. Downs’ fascina-tion with the military and CIA never stopped, and he has been writing since the age of 13.

Downs lived near Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas for several years, which gave him the opportunity to con-duct interviews with Navy

Seals. The author became a researcher who studied com-puters and genetics at Central Michigan University and the University of Las Vegas.

Spydentity is but the first book in a series, which fea-tures Nathan Bishop, the highly trained disciplined action hero.

The reviews of the book are impressive with no rat-ing on either website under four stars. By the end of the summer the book will also be available at Borders.com and Powells.com.

Downs is currently work-ing on the second novel in the series, and he is also training for his first triathlon.
