Note to the Instructors
There will be at least 12 classes out of which 8 classes will be for performing experiments, one
class for introduction & demonstration, one class for repetition and two classes for conducting
examination.
Eight batches have to be made among the students of each section and the experiments will
have to be performed in cyclic order.
The interference patterns of Air wedge, Michelson’s Interferometer and Diffraction grating
spectra may be shown to the students in the introduction class.
Student’s record book should be checked before starting the demonstration of the experiment.
Marks should be deducted proportionate to the degree of incompleteness of the write up.
Malpractices or Manipulation of readings should be awarded Zero mark.
The teachers are required to sign in the student’s work book before the students transfer the
readings to the record.
If a student misses any practical class, he/she may be permitted to perform those missed
experiments during the repetition-turn but credit will be given only to two day’s experiments.
Student is eligible to write the end semester practical exam only if he/she has completed all the
eleven experiments.
Marks obtained in the practical end semester examination will not be disclosed to the students.
Two examiners must evaluate and sign on each and every answer scripts of the end
semester practical examination. This is mandatory as there is no provision for the students to
apply for revaluation in practical examinations.
Teachers are expected to adhere to the timings; be present in the lab during lab hours.
Alternate arrangement has to be made in case of absence and it has to be recorded through
alternate arrangement form.
It is expected that all faculty members demonstrate all the experiments alternatively.

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE STUDENTS
Pre-Lab Session Instructions
1. Students should carry the practical work book, record book and other necessary stationery such as
pen, pencil, eraser, scale and non-programmable calculator to every lab session.
2. Follow the institution dress code and be in time.
3. Collect the necessary equipment from the issue counter against your signature.
4. If you find any damage to the equipment issued, then inform the staff in charge at the counter
immediately.
5. Make sure that you answer the attendance and then go to the allotted work area.
6. Adhere to the rules and maintain the decorum.
In-Lab Session Instructions
1. Follow the instructions on the allotted experiment.
2. Show the experimental setup to the instructor before switching on or proceeding for taking readings.
3. Show the readings and calculations done on the practical work book to the instructor on completion
of experiment.
4. On receiving approval from the instructor, copy the data to the record book and get them evaluated.
5. Make sure that your marks are entered in the register.
6. Return the instruments taken at the counter, after the experiment.
General Instructions
1. Students should not bring mobile phones and programmable calculators to the lab.
2. Students should not go out of the lab without permission.
3. Plagiarism (copying from others) is strictly prohibited and would invite severe penalty in evaluation.
4. In case a student misses a lab class, he/ she may be permitted to perform those missed experiments
during the repetition class, but marks will be awarded only for two day’s missed experiments.
5. Students must complete all the 12 experiments in order to appear for the end semester lab
examination.
