MissionDelta AIDS Education Training Center

Mission Statement

The Mission of the AIDS Education Training Center is to increase the number of health care

providers who are effectively educated and motivated to counsel, diagnose, treat, and

medically manage individuals with HIV infection and to help prevent high risk behaviors that lead

to HIV transmission

Background• The Delta Region AIDS Education and Training Center is part of a

nationwide network providing HIV/AIDS training to health care providers. The AETCs are a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Program of the Ryan White Care Act.

• The Delta Region AIDS ETC is an HIV resource center for health care providers in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. The central office and the Louisiana site are at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. The Mississippi site is at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. The Arkansas site is at Jefferson Comprehensive Care Services, Inc. and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Purpose

• improve the care of people living with HIV/AIDS by supporting state-of-the-art clinical consultation, education, and training for clinicians serving this population.

JCCSI ORIGIN

• Community Action Group--formed a non-profit organization in 1972

• Applied for and received federal grant funds• Developed a health clinic in Pine Bluff• Supported by other human services agencies• Provided a full range of primary and preventive

health services including dental• Expanded to six sites in three counties
