Dalem Kaum Heritage Row
The street of Dalem Kaum hasbecome very synonymous ofbecoming the 'red light' district ofBandung. The decision to improve thecondition of Dalem Kaum throughadaptive re-use of the existing
building is being seen as the mostappropriate and feasible way tofacilitate its existence within the newCreative Laboratory District ofBandung. By maintaining and face-lifting almost all building structuresalong the street, it is hoped that thenew developed stretch of DalemKaum will synergize and complimentthe programming and urban strategiesof the surrounding area of Jalan Asia-Afrika and Alun-Alun Bandung, strengthening the historical,
commercial and economical value ofthe area.

cinema.bdg is a place makingprogramming strategy to develop the area
of Jalan Asia Afrika/ alun-alun as the
Creative Laboratory District for Bandung.
The strategy consists of a new area thatwill house Bandung Film Studio, Bandung
Film Museum and a new alternativecinema/ film workshop dedicated to thedevelopment of the film industry for
Indonesia. Paying homage to one of thegreatest film of all time by Giuseppe
Tornatore - Cinema Paradiso, thisproposal also respond to the need ofBandung city and its creative community
for a proper place for their creative
activities to take place. The now defunctBioskop Dian, situated right across the
site, will be revitalized by having these newprograms to re-brand and re-develop the
area, which is currently being leftunderutilized, even it is located at one of
the prime area of Bandung.

The design explores the potential of the urban setting, offering
spaces that are connected and tied together by six clusters of
building blocks that perform various mixed programs. The
cylindrical buildings shaped the inner space of the public arena,
converging activities and events to take place in a fluid mannerand suggest engagement in creative and intellectual expressions
within the spaces and facilities provided. The design offers an
environment with unique characteristics, but at the same time
maintaining the dialogue with the surrounding areas.
