485  journalism  programs  in  the  US  

93%  of  journalism  students  are  undergraduates  

51,315  students  graduated  with  degrees  in  journalism  and  mass  communication  in  2012    (total  daily  newspaper  workforce  in  2013  was  38,000)  

We  need  to  change  not  just  tactics  but  also  self-­‐conception.

will  mean  changing  organizational  structure  as  well.

The  entire  economy  is  shifting.  Global  transition  from  the  industrial  age  to  the  digital  

information  age.      

The  publishing  business  has  experienced  40  years  of  stagnation  

(Hoag  and  Seo,  2005)
