LETTER FROM THE DIRECTORI remember back 8 years ago during my first year at Ciudad Nueva sitting down with a small group including Reverend Cliff Warner, Ciudad Nueva’s founder, to craft Ciudad Nueva’s mission statement. After many hours of discussion, prayer and revision this is what we committed to:

The mission of Ciudad Nueva is to embody the gospel of Jesus Christby advancing the renewal and development of inner city El Pasothrough the transformation and empowerment of its residents. !

In essence, the mission of Ciudad Nueva is to participate in the coming of the Kingdom of God in our little part of central El Paso, the Rio Grande District. This means we aspire to be involved with spiritual proclamation & formation, the demonstration of compassion, community restoration & development, and the confrontation of injustice – all rooted incarnationally in the Rio Grande District.From the very beginning, we started by listening to the community in order to better understand both the gifts and the challenges present. The desire for more activities and support for children was the first major issue voiced repeatedly by community residents. As a result, the Launch Pad Center for Youth Development was conceived to focus on 3rd to 5th grade children. Since then, Ciudad Nueva has grown to include the following four broad categories:

I hope you enjoy reading through the rest of the annual report to see more specifics of how we are involved in these different areas, and I look forward to seeing what the next frontier is for us as a community. One exciting yet somewhat daunting possibility is the renovation of the historic building that was most recently St. George’s Church on Rio Grande & Florence. We would love to see this structure renovated into a living, active community development center for the Rio Grande District.Please join us as we continue to walk alongside our neighbors discerning together a hope-filled future for our beautiful Rio Grande community. HISTORYIn 2004, Ciudad Nueva “New City” was incorporated as a 501(c)3 public charity to serve the Rio Grande District, a neighborhood in north central El Paso, TX. Almost ten years later, we remain focused on this community, serving hundreds of youth and families through a variety of programs.

The vision of Ciudad Nueva is a fully vibrant and transformed downtown El Paso

community with local youth and adults driven by their faith to participate at all

levels of neighborhood development; a

vision of restored hopes and new dreams; a vision of a New City.

The mission of Ciudad Nueva is to

Programs • Youth Empowerment

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL • Launch PadLaunch Pad Center for Youth Development remains the foundation of our involvement in the community. Lamar Elementary school students come to Launch Pad two days a week to build relationships with mentors, complete homework, play games and engage in Bible-based character and life skills training. Each child is matched with an adult mentor with whom to build a life-long friendship.

MIDDLE SCHOOL • Kids Create!Building on the foundation laid by Launch Pad, Kids Create seeks to foster spiritual growth, character formation and excellence among students from Wiggs Middle School. Students can work on homework, learn new skills, get to know mentors, play games at youth club, and hang out with peers.

HIGH SCHOOL High school program provides continuity for students all the way through graduation from El Paso High School. Students continue building relationships with adult volunteers. Program consists of weekly youth group and Bible studies in partnership with Young Life El Paso. High school males have the opportunity to practice discipline and perfect their goal kicks on the Sun City Wolves soccer team.

Programs • Border Fellows

Border Fellows is a holistic development program that challenges recent college graduates to explore an integrated life. Over the course of ten months, fellows gain professional work experience, serve at Ciudad Nueva, take two graduate school courses, and join the family of St. Clement's Church. Our aim is to develop leaders and “seek the peace and prosperity" of the US/Mexico border region (Jeremiah 29:11).
