CityofLansingIntroduces$140,000inNewCreativePlacemakingProjectsUniqueAugmentedRealityProjectComingtoLansingAlongWithTenAdditionalCreative

LANSING,MI–LansingMayorAndySchorwasjoinedbyLEAP,theArtsCouncilofGreaterLansing,andrecentCityofLansingArtsImpactProjectandFirstImpressionsProgramawardeesinannouncing$140,000increativeplacemakingprojectsthisafternoonatTroppoindowntownLansing.

Announcementsincludeda$75,000ArtsImpactProject,andtenFirstImpressionsProgramgrantawardstotaling$65,000tolocalartsandculturalorganizations.TheArtsImpactGrantandFirstImpressionsProgramisfundedthroughtheCityofLansingandadministeredbyLEAPandtheArtsCouncilofGreaterLansing.

“Investingintheartsisacriticalpieceofgoodeconomicdevelopment,”saidMayorSchor“Theseprojectscontributetoavibrant,visual,andculturallydiversesenseofplaceforthosewhocallLansinghome,andtheyhelpuswelcomevisitors,anddrawnewbusinessesandnewtalenttotheCity.CongratulationstoalltherecipientsandthankyoutoourgreatpartnersLEAPandtheArtsCouncilofGreaterLansingforhelpingtoadvancetheseprojects.”

TheArtsImpactProjectisasignificantopportunityforLansingresidentstoactivatespacesintheCityofLansingthroughcreativeplacemakingeffortsthatareartisticandpermanent.TheFirstImpressionsGrantProgramfundspublicprogramsthatfurtherenhancetheCityofLansing’screativeplacemakingefforts,withthepurposeofcreatingcommunity-drivenplacemakingprojectsthatcapitalizeonLansing’sassets,inspirationandpotential.Bothprogramscontributetocreatinga“senseofplace”forresidents,businesses,andvisitors.

“Placemakingprojectsandprogramssuchastheserepresentopportunitiesforfamiliesandindividualsintheregionandacrosstheglobetoexploreandgrowintellectually,”saidBobTrezise,PresidentandCEOofLEAP.“It’sthisglobalatmospherethatwillhelpusattractandretainthebesttalentandbusinessesintheworld.”

The2018ArtsImpactProjectisalarge-scalevisualartpiecetobelocatedintheheartofdowntownLansing.Usinganimation,soundeffects,filmand3-Dmodeling,lightinstallationswillbeprojectedontoprominentLansingarchitecture,perfectlymappingthefeaturesofthebuilding.Theprojection,createdthroughnewtechnologycalledvideomappingorspatialaugmentedreality,willbeseveralstoriestallandnearly5,000squarefeetintotal.TheprojectwillleveragethetechnicalexpertiseoftheCapitalCityFilmFestival,utilizingLansingPublicMediaCenterprojection-equipmentandthecreativehorsepowerofLightHarvestStudiosinNewYorkCity.
