Introduction to the book - focus on: 'What's in a name' (sheet) - importance of first impressions created through adjectives - structure of a hero's story -
Complete 'Structure of a Hero' as prep.
Create a prototype new character using 'What's in a name' (sheet) Writing: 'Structure of a Hero' - How does Roald Dahl make us feel sympathy for Charlie in the opening chapters?
2 Chapters 9 - 16 (44 pages)
Charlie Diary entry - end of chapter 12 - the night before the factory tour. Chapter 13 - 16 - focus on descriptive writing - adjectives, adverbs, use of italics, how to end a chapter.
Complete 'The Perfect Room' as prep.
Producing Creative Texts: Describe the first time you saw the perfect room using the techniques learned in class.
3 Chapters 17-21(34 pages)
Augustus & Violet - Read each character’s exit from the story. 'Gingerbread' each character to sum up their main characteristics. Begin work on the exit interview.
Preparation for Oral.
Paired Role Play Task (Creating & sustaining roles) – ‘exit’ interview with 1 of the characters
4 Chapters 22-27 (45 pages)
Veruca & Mike Teavee • Read each character’s exit from the story • Produce a character image and accompanying descriptions to sum up their main characteristics
No Monday Lesson - so complete in Tues/Weds lessons.
• Producing Creative Texts: Choose a character who has left the factory and create a newspaper article discussing the character’s exit from the ‘competition’ and speculating on their whereabouts

5 Complete Novel (15 pages)
Producing Creative Texts: Additional chapter creating a ‘new’ character and their ‘exit’ from the story
Drafting and writing additional chapter.
800 words. Drafted in exercise books then typed for prep. Work on structure of exit chapters / drafting / descriptive choices etc. Also - write a song for the Oompa Loompas!
6 Watch film version of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory before xmas break
