Welcome to Captain Cook Primary School,

We are very sorry that we cannot accommodate our usual transition arrangementsthis year for children starting in our Reception classes in September.Please find to follow a tour of our Reception learning environment, presented by Miss Martin our EYFS lead. The following presentation is a mix of still shots and videos . If your child is sensitive to change, we recommend you revisit this presentation regularly to help lessen the impact of the transition and to allow your child to become more familiar with their school environment.

The Entrance to Reception

The Entrance to Reception is the normal way in. It is around the back of the lower school building

There is a safe space to park bikes and scooters

The Cloakroom

• The Cloakroom – or the coat pegs as they are sometimes called are just along the corridor as you come into the Reception door.

• You will have your own coat peg with your name on it.

• You can hang your PE bag and coat on your peg

The Toilets

In Reception we have two sets of toilets. One for girls and one for boys.

The toilets are in the corridor just near the coat pegs

Both Reception classes are adjoining and the big wide doors open to make them into one

The Reception Outside Classroom

Both Reception classrooms have doors to the outside classroom.It is one big area where everyone can play together.

The big area is an additional outside space which is shared with Nursery

The Red Playground

The red playground is just next to the Reception outside classroom.We go outside to play here on a morning at break time and after we have had our dinners.We can usually meet our friends and family from different classes on the red playground.

The Wild Area

The Wild Area is our super, natural play area in the grounds of our school.It is a magical place we love to visit to climb, swing, explore, imagine and build.

The PE Hall

The Hall is not far from your Reception class.It is a big room with no furniture and a wooden floor.In the hall we have lots of room so we do exercise and PE lessons.In Reception you will have a PE kit -clothes especially for sports and learn to get changed all by yourself.

The Dining Hall

When things get back to normal you will begin to visit the dining hall too.

This is where we normally eat our school dinners or packed lunches.

The ICT Suite

In Reception you will begin to have lessons in computing. We visit the ICT suite for this and everyone sits at their own computer.
