MINIORITY AND WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESS CONSULTING

The Sustainable Community Resource’s team has vast experience in creating resources to support small and

minority businesses. Most recently, many general contractors have experienced low turnout of minority contractors for bid opportunities. In response to this need, a contractor’s resource center was developed. Key stakeholders including...contractors, general contractors, and state-wide public officials, participated in a strategic planning

session to identify the services needed to support minority contractors. The contractor resource center addressed issues ranging from bid development and cash management to construction and contract compliance. SCR

principals led that initiative and subsequent HUB (historically underutilized businesses) academy.

The resource center developed customized solutions based on its needs assessment with members. The members represented Forsyth, Davidson, Guilford, and Surry counties. The center provides access to hardcopy plan

specifications, technology, upcoming bid notifications, along with training, seminars and networking opportunities. The Center also helps foster collaboration between large majority general contractors and smaller HUB

contractors.

As an outgrowth of the resource center, a contractor’s symposium was developed to support ALL contractors. The symposium has had significant impact, attendance is growing and it is a draw for contractors from across the State.
