Smart Parking: Reducing Urban Congestion & Pollution

City & Municipality Use Cases Access to real time and historical On-Street Parking information can have a range of benefits for cities and municipalities. Among them are:

Real time information for residents & visitors

•Helps reduce traffic congestion

• Improves air quality & environmental conditions

•Enables commerce > allows for easier shopping & meetings

Parking Pricing & Inventory Management

•Measure parking occupancy trends by street & neighborhood

•Correlate occupancy with pricing – facilitates dynamic pricing

Overall Infrastructure Planning

• Better integration with other municipal resources, such as public transit

• Assists with broader neighborhood comparisons for long range planning

Planning – Traffic & Population Analytics – Densities Follow the Movement of Traffic and People – Historical, Real Time, Predictive - Regardless of Mode of Transport

Origin & Destination: Infrastructure Planning

REQUIREMENT Insight around historic population movement trends and behaviour. Understanding the flow and demand of populations upon a network. PROBLEM Maximising the impact of infrastructure investment is valuable. To best decide which new road to build, or junction to improve requires data otherwise sourced from expensive surveys, models, or techniques which may otherwise negatively impact the network. INRIX SOLUTION Historic insight around population movement, aggregating flow over time and space to provide Origin Destination Matrices commonly used to inform transport simulation and modelling

Origin Destination: Demographic Impact

REQUIREMENT Gathering sufficient information on the geographical location of visitors to a given location. PROBLEM Difficult to capture information on casual visitors and/or sharing information between competitors at a given location. INRIX SOLUTION Analysis of population volume based on origin destination allows for demographic overview of visitors and impact study on alternative location assessment.

INRIX Population Analytics - Walking, Bikes, Buses, etc Providing analytics around the ‘movement of people’

DETAILED KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ORIGINS, ROUTES AND DEMOGRAPHICS

New insights into the what and where of population movement for smart cities, retail, advertising and financial

FOUNDATION OF NEW INNOVATION

Potential to revolutionize everything from city and traffic management planning to retail and financial decisions

IMPORTANT SCALE ADVANTAGES

The sheer volume of cellular data means that sample sizes correlate statistically with real-world population volumes, ensuring meaningful results

Some Road Agency Customers

UK Highways Agency INRIX is a critical element of the National Traffic Information Service, a long-term contracted service for the UK Highways Agency that monitors and manages England’s entire Strategic Road Network

• World’s largest integration of agency sensor and private GPS Floating Vehicle Data (12,000+ km)

• Full nationwide motorway network speed monitoring and dangerous slowdown detection, updated every minute

• Greater network granularity than HA sensors alone; full system coverage regardless of sensor location and health status

• Automated alerts to operators of conditions deviating from normal conditions

• New national-wide traffic flow map for public at ntis.trafficengland.com

LIVE NOW

By using INRIX floating car data, French transport authorities have a more immediate view of what is happening on its road network, improving traffic flow across 2,000 km of road. PTV Group, the world leaders in predictive traffic forecasting, will deliver insight based on GPS probe data.

I-95 Corridor Coalition

INRIX partners with 16 states along America’s eastern seaboard for what the Wall Street Journal called, “one of the biggest rollouts yet for technology designed to help motorists avoid traffic jams”

• INRIX provides travel times and traffic speeds in support of 511 call services, traveler information websites, traffic message signs; daily traffic operations and performance measures.

• Project spans the entire eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida covering approximately 8000 miles of freeways and over 30,000 miles of major secondary roadways.

• INRIX data accuracy is independently validated every month; Service went live in 2008. In 7+ years, INRIX has not missed its accuracy requirements once.

• 59,000 hours of testing against blue tooth

INRIX collaboration with regional government transportation agencies

ZVM - Bavaria

50 | Confidential & Proprietary 2016

• German State of Bavaria’s Centre for Traffic Management (ZVM) - floating car data (FCD) from INRIX is ‘just as good’ as the information from road sensors. The results indicate that the traffic authority can provide enhanced traffic information to citizens without the expense and time-consuming process of maintaining and installing additional road sensors.

• INRIX was able to provide accurate real-time traffic information up to 98 percent of the

time on roads such as the A3, A8 and A9, which are the most congested motorways in Bavaria. The test found that FCD could be used to fill in the ‘blind spots’ between road sensors on secondary roads to enhance traffic information.

• Dr. Stefan Krampe, CEO TraffiCon GmbH, said: “As INRIX’s floating car data was found to be

just as accurate as the information derived from road sensors, it is clear that INRIX can deliver high quality, real-time information to transport authorities to help them better monitor and manage traffic. Through partnering with INRIX, ZVM now has a more comprehensive picture of traffic across their road network and is able to provide more accurate updates to drivers.”
