Jesus answer: a sign demanded by human distrust will not be provided. Faith is needed to see the significance of his actions.

14-21 The blindness of his disciples who fail to see the deeper meaning of his actions.

healing seems to resist Jesus: a symbol of his disciples who cannot see yet. Their tradition has failed to provide them with an adequate understanding of the coming Messiah. (see Acts 1:6-11)
