Should be inviting and “HOOKS” the reader.

Perry football beats Williams Field for first time. After a feverish drenching from mother nature, the

Pumas finally defeated rival Williams Field 157-3. “American Idol” winner comes

from your English class. As Ryan Seacrest slowly announced Chase

Richardson’s name, the Perry sophomore could hardly hold back his tears of “American Idol” joy.

More HOOKS Your favorite musician comes to

play in your Conference Period. It was a classic scene of fan-dominium in Mr.

Tippett’s conference period yesterday when the Jonas Brothers performed.

Mr. Tippett’s pug eats a freshman. Mr. Tippett’s pug, Dolly, was apprehended by Perry

security after mauling a freshman and eating his spleen late Tuesday morning.

The BODY of the paragraph1. Concrete detail – a sentence that

expands upon the ideas present in the TS.

a) They present facts and ideas associated with the paragraph topic and introduce key concepts.

The BODY of the paragraph2. Commentary sentences – provides

explanation of the concrete detail’s relevance. Typically write 2 for each concrete detail.

Answers these questions:a) So what?b) What is the point?c) Why is this fact important?

May also transition to a new fact.

The BODY of the paragraphRepeat this process 3-5 times per

paragraph. YES, this does make for a

L O N G paragraph!

The CONCLUSION The conclusion should tie everything

together, providing adequate resolution to the paragraph.

Restates the main idea of the paragraph in a new way, sometimes taking into account new info provided by the detail and commentary.

The CONCLUSION May also lead into a new

paragraph’s main idea…like an hourglass.
