Happy New Year!!!!!! Welcome back from break! We are gearing up for a wonderful spring semester filled with great learning opportunities, exciting activities and family events. We were so proud of our Tiger class who produced an entire bake sale with the help of their teacher and Dr. Natarajarathinam for teaching the children the princi-ples of entrepreneurship. The money raised will go to purchase something special for their classroom. This included value proposition and many other elements of the startup business model. You can check out the arti-cle of their lesson at http://engineering.tamu.edu/news/2016/12/19/texas-am-university-professor-shares-entrepreneurship-principles-with-preschoolers-for-holiday-bake-sale.
For this month, the classrooms will be engaged in topics such as winter, Arctic animals (penguins/polar bears), ice, snow, igloos, and the contributions of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The pre-kindergarten class-rooms will be ramping up their lessons for kindergarten preparation. This will include number recognition, count-ing, writing numbers, letter recognition, spelling, and sight words.
We thank you for sharing your little “pearls” with us. We truly treasure them. Kisha

Dear Parents,
We made it to the New Year, and I hope you enjoyed time with family and friends. I was so blessed to spend time with both of my children, and all three of my grandchildren. I want-ed to say thank you for contributing to our Project Red Socks. It is always a special moment to make someone smile. We will have a few changes in our staff for the spring semester. Ms. Lula is moving, and she will not be returning. We wish her the best. Miss. Ashley graduated, so she has moved on to her next adventure. We should have both Katie's back, and Miss. Kayla as well. I will let you know if anything else changes. I am so excited for the many new projects we will share. We will begin the first week of January just getting back to a normal routine. We will also be welcoming a new little girl Zehra. Please welcome her and her family to our class. After we are settled back, we will begin a new project about winter. The babies have picked up saying brrr when we go outside when it's cold. We are going to team up with the other bug rooms to share ideas, so it should be a lot of fun. If you have any old scarfs or winter hats you would like to share, that would be awesome. I hope you have enjoyed the pictures of them with their investigations. Be on the look out for more to come.
Now, it's time to talk about our sweet little babies! Aurora is starting to find her words. She gets in a hurry to tell you something, so the words come out fast. But once she slows down, she will say a few words clear. Aurora loves cleaning. If you give her a wet paper tow-el, she gets busy. She is a girl after my heart. Reading is also one of her favorite activities. I think I have read the book about the farm a million times. She also loves Going on a Bear Hunt. Nina is using her words as well. You can ask her a question, and she will answer yes. She is also repeating her friend’s names. Nina is another busy girl who loves to clean. She is one of the first to help when we start singing “clean up, clean up”. Nina has the biggest smile on her face pretty much the whole day. She loves playing peek- a- boo, and racing the cars, which might be something big brother Juan-Pablo taught her. Rose is the definition of happi-ness. Life just makes that girl happy. Rose is beginning to use her words as well. We will be chitter-chatting with each other very soon. Rose loves to go first with art time, but she waits very patiently when it's someone else's turn. Rose is such a people person. She loves playing with the Bumblebee class, and chalk writing has become her favorite activity. She has some pre-writing skills in the making. Did I say she gives the best hugs? One of my favorite things to see is when Rose sees big sister Leen on the playground. The love they both have on their sweet little faces is priceless! Lucas is Mr. Personality now. I think he has gotten use to his teachers and is having a blast. He kind of has a little crush on Ms. Lula. He will miss her for sure. Lucas loves playing chase with Logan and Jenny from the Bumblebee class. You should see how fast those little legs move! Watch out Aggie track team. Our little Isaac started in the last few weeks of December and he fit right in, such a sweet boy and so handsome. Please make sure you say hello to his family. Isaac does the cutest thing and claps for himself when he does something really good. His little smile is adorable. We get a lot of teachers who stop by to say hello as well as the big kids, as they call them. They always comment on how cute we are and my response is always: “Well yeah!!!!!”
Reminders: Please take blankets home on Fridays to be washed and bring back on Mon-days. Art goes home on Friday as well. You should always read the take home sheets to make sure you have enough supplies, such as wipes and weather appropriate clothes. There will be a note to let you know if we need any supplies. Thank you for allowing me to continue on our journey together. It should be a great 2017. Did I say I love my class?

Welcome back and Happy New year.
We hope everyone had a great holiday break and a wonderful
start to the New Year. Our winter celebration was a big success. All of
the bees were extremely excited for the frosting, and it was a colorful
celebration. We would like to thank everyone for helping us celebrate
our winter celebration.
All of our little bees are growing up so fast. This month, we will
be included a few new things to our classroom routines. We will be in-
corporating classroom jobs, such as line leader, caboose, and cup helper.
We will also start to introduce the calendar a little more. We will be in-
troducing the year, month, and days of the week. Also, we will encourage
the children to be more independent. For example, cleaning up after
themselves when they are finished eating (which they are already doing
a really good job at), after nap time, and assisting on cleaning up toys.
We ask that you help us on encouraging your child to clean up at home,
and allow your little bee to help with daily chores around the house. This
will help them transition into the bird wing in August 2017. If you have
any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask Ms. Michelle or Mrs.
Jamie.
I’d like to inform all my parents that with my new school
schedule, I will only be out on Mondays. I will be leaving in the af-
ternoons, but have no worries that Ms. Michelle will be here to
look after our little bees.

Dear Parents,
We can’t believe that 2017 is already here! We hope everyone enjoyed the winter break. We would also like to give a big thanks to everyone for their gift donations for our CPS child.
This month, the children will explore review, winter and snowman. We will continue to focus on improving our social and self-help skills. Also, we will continue to improve our fine motor and gross motor skills. We will introduce scissors to the children. Children will practice holding the scissors. The children will practice using their words to ex-press wants and needs. I know some of the children have started toilet training. If you have not started and would like to begin toilet training, please let me know. In the pro-cess of toilet training, we will encourage them to pull their pants up and down on their own, as well as teaching appro-priate bathroom procedures. These are important self-help skills you can work on at home as well. To help with this, we ask that you please send your child in clothes that they are able to pull up and down on their own. If you have any question or concerns, please come by or call at any time.

Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a fun but restful Winter Break. Thank you for making our Winter Celebration en-
joyable and for donating to Jackson C.’s wish list and making his holiday merrier.
Last month, we had such a blast with Laura Numeroff, and all the great stories
she has written. The activities we did with each of the books was enjoyed by all.
We were able to mix and cook muffins and design pancakes with bananas and
taste them. Cooking and eating is always fun to do. We also reviewed some past
projects, and had some days of fun. We had another really great month.
This month, we will start off by talking about what everyone did over the break and do a quick review.
We will also explore the winter season, and hope that we will get to experience some wintery days. I
am hoping for some snow; we haven’t seen any in quite a while. I want the children to see that awe-
some white stuff that floats from the sky! We will also talk about what animals do in the winter. We
will end the month with Dental Habits.
The children are joining in on discussions and singing. They are doing really well, so thank you to all
parents for reinforcing what we are learning at school at home. I am so pleased with the way the stu-
dents are progressing thus far. We are enjoying each other’s company, and having an awesome time.
Just a reminder, BGCC will be closed on January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gwen Ms. Calee
Parent Tip:
When you want to entertain your child and engage them into the process at the same time, we find that
when they play with playdough, they shut the world out completely. I want to share a playdough recipe
with you that might become a favorite when your child wants to do something different at playtime.
Ingredients: 2 cups plain flour 1 cup salt 1 tablespoon oil 1 cup cold water 2 drops liquid food color Method: Combine plain flour and salt Add water, food color and oil. Mix until ingredients are combined Knead well If the consistency is too wet, add a little plain flour This is a quick and easy recipe that kids can help to make and play with. You can be creative and add fragrances such as cinnamon, vanilla, peppermint, etc. You can also add props, like cups, bowls, and plastic letters or numbers. Enjoy! Reminders: -Please Sign your child In and out daily -Please close the gate and door as you drop off and pick up your child -Label all items that belong to your child

We are glad to have everyone back from Winter Break. We hope you had a restful time. We
look forward to getting back into our school routines and exploring new experiences. The
spring semester has many project studies such as community helpers, transportation and di-
nosaurs, which will be fun for everyone. It will be fun to watch the children grow and devel-
op throughout the new year.
It is hard to believe another year is finished. Our Winter Celebration was fun! We like to have
the parents visiting and sharing the fun. We are grateful for your support. We wish to thank
everyone for their donations to the CPS child that we sponsored. We know that her holiday
was brighter because of you. You made her foster parents smile!
With the cooler weather, we are asking that you hang your child’s winter coat on their hook in
the hall before entering the room. If you would like, you may provide a light weight jacket
that we can keep in their cubby in the room. That way it is easier for us to access, if needed.
Also so we do not have too many coats in the room.
Reminders:
Please remember to sign your child in and out each day. Please check your child’s clothing cubbie for at least 2 changes of season appropriate
clothing. We do go out each day, weather permitting. Please check the weather report to make
sure that your child has appropriate outer wear.
Parent Tip: Winter is here! We stay inside more due to cold and inclement weather. One of the things my own children enjoyed was making a tent from a small card table, or some chairs and an old sheet. They loved having a place to “hide” out. They would take their toys and books in the “tent” for play. Sometimes, my children enjoyed having a flashlight to play with while inside their “tent”. Another idea for an old sheet is to hold the corners and shake it to music. They love to put small balls and watch them pop up and down. This activity can help them use a lot of their extra energy!
Developmental Goals:
Gross motor: hopping, balancing on one leg and galloping
Fine motor: developing the pincher muscle, holding a writing utensil properly
Social and Emotional: using our words to express our needs and feelings
Life/Self Help Skills: following directions, taking care of our belongings, and putting on our coat
Language/literacy: written recognition of our first name, expanding vocabulary through naming, songs, and finger plays.

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful, restful break and enjoyed some extra time with your children. As we kick off the new semester, we will do a study on winter. During this project, we will explore weather changes, activities specific to winter, winter clothing, and animals in winter. We will experiment with ice to lean about the concept of cold, and what happens when ice is exposed to warmer temperatures. The children will also enjoy a winter walk as we notice the changes in our environment. We will continue working on our prewriting strokes his month as well. We would like to wish Rodaina and Aziz well as their families move on to other adventures. We will miss having them in our class!
This month, you may consider a trip to the Spirit Ice Arena in College Station. This is a fun time for the whole family! The children will enjoy the skating using the cones on the ice to help keep their balance. There are also many shows and instruction classes as well. The Spirit Ice Arena is located at 400 Holleman Dr. East in College Station. You can get more in-formation on their website at www.spiriticearena.com
We look forward to a wonderful semester full of exciting learning experiences! Your children are thriving and continue to amaze us with their knowledge, and how quickly the learn new things.
Reminders
If you, or anyone you know, has any expertise related to our coming projects, please let us know. We would love to have “experts” come in and talk with the children to enrich their learning experiences. This can be sharing a book related to the project, or showing actual objects that these people use on a day to day basis!
Ms. Elaine will be out January 2-6.
The center will be closed January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
Please keep in mind that we still go outside even in the cold weather, so dress your child ac-cordingly. We will ensure that the children are bundled up with jackets, and hats on their heads before going outside. Depending on the temperature, we may stay out our entire time.
Please be sure to label all of your child’s belongings.
Please be vigilant in closing the gate and door as you enter and depart the classroom. It on-ly takes a second for a child to slip out of the room.
Many of you are forgetting to sign in and out each day. I understand that drop off and pick-up can be hectic times, however, it is imperative that you take a moment to complete this task. This is a licensing regulation, and how we keep track of who is currently pre-sent.

SEALS Howdy and Happy New Year,
I hope everyone had a relaxing and joyous winter break and holiday season. Last
month, we put a great deal of focus on ice, snow, and hibernation. I learned so much
about what types of activities caught the interest of each student, and I will be im-
plementing those activities in lessons to come. This month, we will be learning
about penguins, Martin Luther King Jr., igloos and Inuit, or Eskimo, cultures. I am
very excited to hear about the wonderful adventures that my seals had over the break
and to jump back in to learning and creating new and exciting arctic adventures.

Dear Families,
Happy New Year! May the New Year, 2017, fulfill your hopes and dreams! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. I missed everyone and I am excited to be back. I would like to thank all the parents who participated in the holiday gift for Laundynn, the child in Child Protective Services (CPS), and the end of the year Whales class holiday party. I appreciate all of your involvement. Thank you!
During the month of January, we will explore the season of winter with our projects—winter, ice and snow. Some of the concepts we will work on include iden-tifying objects such as snow, snowman, snowball, snowflake, skates and sled. We will also work on identifying animals that like the cold, like penguins and polar bears. We will also identify and talk about winter clothing we wear. Clothing we will talk about include: boots, jackets, coats, gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves. We will explore hot and cold by touching and tasting. Activities will include painting with ice cubes and chocolate milk mix, and painting on boots and mittens. We will also ex-plore cotton, snow, and rice in the sensory tub. Also, we will talk about Martin Lu-ther King, Jr.! Martin Luther King, Jr. was an influential leader during the Civil Rights Movement. He was also a great speaker, and his powerful words resonate with us today.
Please note that while we understand that email is often an easier form of communication, if your child will be out for a day, or if you need a prompt response, I ask that you please call the center to give us that message since I have limited ac-cess to my email throughout the day. Finally, we have two friends turning four this month. Happy, happy birthday to Joshua and Leen!!
I look forward to another great semester!
Thank you!
Friendly Reminders:
Please make sure that all of your child’s belongings are clearly labeled. Please make sure that your child’s extra clothes are complete and that they are appro-
priate for the weather. Please make sure your child has an extra jacket in his/her cubby to
keep at school. Please remember to sign your child in/out each day.

Howdy and Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break! I can’t wait to hear all the stories your children have
about what they did while they were gone!
This month, we are going to be doing a project on winter! We will talk about all kinds of things that have to
do with winter, like snow, ice, warm clothes, and different types of animals that live in a winter type atmos-
phere, such as penguins and polar bears. The children always really like this project, as they are able to play
with ice and do lots of hands-on activities. We will also be talking about Martin Luther King this month and
learning lots of interesting things about him.
Things to do at home:
We are working on being “Independent Seahorses”! Encourage your little one to dress themselves and work on putting on their jacket all by themselves, or have them show you how they can clear their dishes from the table after they finish eating.
Take your child outside, find a nice area with lots of dirt and use a stick or their finger to practice writing their name and their letters. Children love playing in the dirt, so they should really enjoy this!
Recently, the children have really enjoyed dressing up in some old shirts and accessories that I brought in for our dramatic play center. If you find yourself stuck inside one day because of the weather, pull out some of your old clothes and let them play dress up!
Reminders:
Check to make sure your child’s spare clothes are weather appropriate. We do go outside everyday unless it is raining, so please make sure your child is adequately prepared
for the weather.
As always, feel free to talk with me or email me if you have any questions, or if you just want to chat. I love
hearing from you!

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break! I am looking forward to
seeing everybody back this week and will dive into a theme of Ice. This month, we will
continue observing and discussing about the new season of winter. The books we read
will reflect this topic. If the temperature drops (and cooperates), then we will even experi-
ment by making some ice to take outside.
Math: We will continue working on number concepts and pattering.
Science: We will explore liquids and solids.
Literacy: We will focus on writing skills.
Fine Motor Skills: manipulating playdough, lacing.
We will continue working on refining the social emotional skill of self-regulation. We are
using active calming techniques such as deep breathing to help manage difficult, but de-
velopmentally normal fits. In our classroom, we call it “being a S.T.A.R.,” which stands for
Smile, Take a deep breath, And Relax. Three deep breaths will turn the stress response off
in the body. I encourage you to practice this active calming technique with your child at
home when needed.
In order to help with our projects, you can donate ribbons, fabric straps, empty cereal
boxes, gift-wrap and other “goodies” for our material collection. Perhaps you can think of
other materials that would afford us creative learning experiences. If so, then please send
them with instructions for their use.
I hope this letter finds everyone well and I am looking forward to the New Year! Thank
you for trusting me with helping your children grow and learn. I cherish each one of them!
Reminders:
Please label your child’s set of extra clothing, jackets and hats.
Now that the days are getting cooler, remember to dress your child appropriately. Please
dress your child in easy to put on and comfortable clothes. We do go outside every day
unless it is raining.
Please check your child’s cubby to make sure the extra set of clothes is weather appropri-
ate.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a great holiday break! It’s
wonderful to have extra time to spend with our families. I missed the kids during the break, and will enjoy sharing holi-day memories with them. Returning to school and catching up with your classmates is a special time. We will continue learning about winter and arctic animals such as penguins and polar bears. In math, we will practice number recognition, counting, and writing numbers. Also, we will prac-tice upper and lowercase letter recognition, associate letters, and sounds. My goals include: working on the understanding of numbers and their quantities, rote counting 1-100, counting objects, the concepts of more and less, creating and extending A/B patterns, placing items on graphs, improving fine motor skills, following lines and shapes when cutting, holding scissors and writing instruments correctly, and helping each child become more independent. We will develop skills that will compliment a fun and a positive learning experience. We will also learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a day to talk about
cooperation, acceptance, peace and caring for all people: teaching the children we care about EVERY-
ONE in their class and their family.
Kitchen Math at home:
Cooking presents an opportunity to promote mathematical thinking including measuring, weighing,
counting, and estimating. Here are kinds of simple hands-on activities.
Count your food: So simple and can be done anywhere. As teachers, we are looking for kids to be
able to count to 31 (all the days in a month) so having them count out 31 raisins or blueberries is a
great way to practice both counting and calendar skills.
Make groups: Write some numbers on a paper plate and ask your child to put a pile of goldfish
crackers on the corresponding number. This helps your child to understand that each number repre-
sents a set group of items. Once your child can understand this you can teach them to “count
on” and add more to their group.
Make numbers out of cooked noodles or spaghetti: Recognizing and forming numbers can be diffi-
cult for kids. Giving them cooked spaghetti and having them form a number you tell or show
them is much more fun then rote number practice.
4. Make snack patterns: Being able to identify and complete simple math patterns is a kindergarten
math skill. Showing kids how to make patterns with their snacks helps them develop this skill. You
may have to model it at first, but eventually they will be able to figure out which snack would come
next and create their own.
5. Sort and graph your snacks: Give your child a snack mix and have them sort them into
groups. Then take each of the groups and graph them on a plate. This works on so many math skills
and is fun for both big and little kids.

Howdy! Families:
Happy 2017 to everyone! December was a short, but busy month. I would
like to thank everyone who participated in the Bake Sale. The children
had fun transforming our dramatic play area into a bakery and learning
what it takes to have a bake sale.
For the rest of the year, we will be working on independence in the class-
room. This means putting on coats independently, getting supplies needed
for teaching table, and putting things away. We will be doing what we can
to prepare your child for a smooth transition to Kindergarten. This will
most likely be a bigger transition for parents. After the first few days of
school, you will no longer see your child’s teacher daily like you do at our
center. You will communicate through your child’s weekly folder or an e-
mail.
We will begin to use inventive spelling in our weekly journals. This means
your child will sound out their words and begin to write them. It will not
phonetically be correct, as many words have silent letters they cannot
hear. This is okay! We just want them thinking and writing what they
hear. They will get the correct spelling later on in the upper grades.
We will continue working on letters and letter sounds to begin to spell and
read words. Additionally, we will continue working on number recognition
through 30 or higher, patterns, ordinal numbers and addition.
Reminders: The center will close Monday, Jan-
uary 16th in observance of Martin L. King Jr.
Day.
Thank you,
