Today is the Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi. This
week we celebrate the Holy Eucharist, which sustains
the church. Throughout today’s readings, it is clear
that we are to continue to partake in the Body and
Blood of Jesus every mass. In our second reading
from 1 Corinthians, Jesus’s command is for us to “Do
this in remembrance of me”. For we know, as
Catholics, that every mass we truly receive the Body
and Blood of Jesus Christ. We are all called to open
our hearts to Jesus, each week, and to continue to
encourage others of the same.
This week, our preparation song, The Feast Meant for
Everyone by Tom Booth and Sarah Hart, is an
invitation for all to partake in the greatest gift of our
faith. This song proclaims, not just Communion, but
also of missioning, mercy, and God’s
goodness. Remembrance, by Matt Maher and Matt
Redman, is another song taken directly from today’s
liturgy. It reminds us that we are to “respond to His
invitation” each day as we live out our faith by
remembering His words and sharing in the Eucharist as
a family of faith each week around the table of the
Lord. I pray that this Solemnity may continue to be
one of the most cherished Catholic celebrations.
