Monday Introduce the ‘zz’ digraph.
Make a list of words
containing this digraph.
(Digraph – 2 letters that make
1 sound)
If you have internet access
watch videos on youtube (Epic
Phonics, Geraldine the
giraffe).
Also access Espresso and
Phonics Play websites.
Recognising numbers to 20 and
saying one more and one less.
Count to 20 together.
With your child make a number line
1-20 on a piece of paper or using
number magnets/number cards
whatever you have at home.
Ask your child to point out a
variety of numbers (not in order).
E.g. can you find number 9, 11, 4,
19? etc.
Once your child is confident
recognising numbers to 20 ask
them to point to a given number
and ask them what is one more and
one less using the number line to
help.
**this can be extended to 30 for
more of a challenge if needed.
Read the story ‘The Very Hungry
Caterpillar’ if you have it or watch
it on YouTube.
Look in your cupboards in the
kitchen and think about what the
hungry caterpillar would eat. Can
you spot any foods from the story?
Look for them in the shops too (if
allowed)?
Make a list together of the foods
you found that the hungry
caterpillar would like.

Talk about the life cycle of a butterfly.
Egg – caterpillar – cocoon – butterfly.

To link in with the weekly story
today talk about days of the week.
This is something you could do
daily if you would like. What day is
it? What day will it be tomorrow?
What day was it yesterday?
Discuss months of the year- how
many months do we have? Can you
tell me them? Which months are in
spring? What happens in spring?
Introduce describing words to your
child.
Describing words – words that say
something about an object. Instead
of an apple, you could say a JUICY
apple.
Watch ‘The Very hungry
Caterpillar again and think of
describing words for the foods you
come across.
Re-tell the story of The Hungry Caterpillar.
Using paper ask your child to try and spell the
days of the week using their phonics (support
where necessary).
Draw under each day what happens in the story
or what does the caterpillar eat. Talk about
colours of food, shapes, Counting the items,
healthy food choices etc.
Also access Espresso and

Use your sheet from yesterday and
this time add some describing
words next to your food names. (If
no room do them on a different
sheet of paper.

Discuss money – what is money?
What do we use it for? Where do
we get money from? Where do we
keep it?
Type in recognising coins on
YouTube and look at a money Video
that highlights different coins.
Look in purses/money box at home
and find some coins, 1p, 2p, 5p,
10p, 20p, 50, £1, £2.
Discuss their values- what does
that mean?
Talk about the sizes, shapes and
colours and distinguishing features
that may help recognise different
coins.
Write a food menu for ‘The Very
hungry Caterpillar’. Use the sheet
from beginning of the week to help
with writing this.
Give your restaurant a name
Make a menu including the foods
you have found at the beginning of
the week and make sure you include
the describing words. Sound out
the words together. Use the sound
mats below to help.

Use template below (if you have
access to a printer) If not, then
make your own menu at home using
paper and colouring pencils).
Butterfly painting
Look at pictures of butterflies online or find
them in a book or watch nature programme on the
television.
Use the stencil of a butterfly. Paint one side and
then open up. Line of symmetry.
Is it the same on both sides?
Thursday

Make a list of words

If you have internet access

Use coins from around the home to
add together.

Practise a variety of money sums.
If you would like to write them
down into a number sentence you
can.
Go on a tricky word hunt around
the house. Find the words and try
and read them. Remember we can’t
sound out these words – you need
to try and remember what they
look like! Work together!
Use these tricky words:
Phase 2
Butterfly and Caterpillar crafts.
Discuss the life cycle of a caterpillar with your
child(ren). You may want to remind them by
showing a video from Monday. Discuss the stages
and the names of each, egg, caterpillar, cocoon
and butterfly.
With items that can be used for crafts from
around the house, egg boxes, lollipop sticks,

the life cycle using crafts- this is entirely up to
you.
Friday Ask children to think of words
with the sounds in that you
have learnt this week.
(zz, qu, ch, sh).
E.g. chin for ch.
Scribe them for your child.
Stick them either on the wall
outside or on the floor and
play splat. Shout out a word
and ask your child to splat it
(they can use their hands,
throw a ball it is, jump onto it,
throw wet toilet paper at it
(abit precious at the moment
though!)
Formation Friday!
Practise number formation.
You can do this in many ways
depending on what you have around
the house!
Pen and paper
Rice in a tray and use finger
Play dough numbers
Finger panting/brush painting
Chalks etc.
** focus on ensuring numbers are
the correct way round and
recognising numbers to at least 20.
Complete the letter formation
worksheet. See below.
If you do not have access to a
printer. Write some letters out in
highlighter for your child to write
over. Ensuring your child uses
tripod grip when holding the pencil
(first 2 fingers and thumb)
Go for a walk – talk about what you have enjoyed
this week.
What did they find tricky – did they stick to a
task even though they found it tricky. What did
they learn from it?
Ask them to find things outside containing the
sounds of the week. (zz, qu, ch, sh).
