Bodos

• he Bodos, constitute the largest tri%al community out of a total of 3- tri%al

communities in $ssam.

• hey feel they have %een neglected, eploited and discriminated against for

decades, look at this accord as a historic opportunity to fulfil their longstandingdemands

• But due to the changing demographics of the B$ and the conse/uent land

alienation, they fear they may %ecome a minority in their o&n state and in hitherto

Bododominated areas.

 on Bodos

and 'uslims

• hey resents the fact that Bodos constitute a meagre 2 per cent of the total

population in the B! area and %elieve that Bodos should not %e given the rightto rule over the other threefourths.

• num%er of villages &ith minority Bodo population &ere included in the B$

to make it a contiguous area.

• he nonBodos &ant such villages to %e taken out of B$ so that they do not

feel insecure &here they are clearly in the maority.

What%s the &ro'lem in Bodo (ccord?

• "he Bodo Accord, see&s to +rotect the land ri#hts o) the indi#enous Bodos while allowin# settler uslims -both le#al and ille#al. to

)reely ac=uire land at the same time!

• "he Ban#ladeshi mi#rants easily snea& in the area, ille#ally +rocure rele%ant documents li&e ration cards to establish *ndian

nationality!

• "a&in# ad%anta#e o) the +ro%isions in the B" Act, such mi#rants are )reely +rocurin# land in the B"A, which only adds to the

woes o) indi#enous Bodos!

• Both sides are demandin# the re%iew @ re%ocation o) B" act because on one hand, Bodos )eel their ri#hts are not +rotected and

on the other hand, 4on6bodos )eel that Bodos are #ettin# way too many bene)its!

What is the solution?

lashes between Bodos and 4on6Bodos are nothin# new in the 1o&rahar area!

arlier 3, /, 9 and as recently as 200C, there ha%e been lar#e scale clashes!

ach o) them, because o) )ollowin# three reasons:
