ANTIHIPERTENSIVE POISONING

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE AGENTS POISONING (CCB & B-BLOCKER)

CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER (CCB)

• Depress sinus node automaticity and slow AV node conduction

• Reduce CO and BP hypotension• Treatment : – Supportive care– Whole bowel irrigation and Activated Charcoal– Calcium, antidote for depressed cardiac contractility– Other drugs : glucagon, vasopresin, epinephrine,

high-dose insulin plus glucose to maintain euglycemia

BETA BLOCKERS

• Highest toxicity : Propanolol• Bradycardia and hypotension• Agents with partial agonist activity (pindolol)

tachycardia and hypertension• Seizures and cardiac conduction block

(propanolol overdose)• Treatment : General supportive care, IV fluids

Beta agonist, atropine, Glucagon
