Blood Donation camp to commemorate the Founder’s Birthday
Orientation for freshers
AQAR (2016-2017)
36
Best Practice 1
Title of the practice : Orientation for Freshers
Goal :To enable the students to understand the difference between a school and a college
environment, which would help to transform and adhere to it.
The context: Orientation is a process of preparing students to be socially integrated into the
college culture. It presents a view of academic frame work as well as extracurricular activities
offered in the college. This helps the students to set their goals and to learn about the various
student organizations in which they can be involved.
The Practice: Every year, before the academic sessions begin, the first year students are given
orientation on the curriculum, evaluation procedures, code of conduct and the teaching faculty
of the respective departments. During the orientation program the academic heads and directors
of various centres brief the students about the credentials of the college and the various activities
that are carried out through power point presentations. At the end of the orientation, the students
are taken around the campus to get familiar with both physical locations and the workings of the
environment.
Evidence of Success : Getting to know the campus, academic structure and the teaching faculty
reduce the anxieties of the students. Moreover becoming familiar with the other departments
paves way for a better inter personal skill and a positive attitude. This leads them to success.
Problems encountered and resources required : Students who seek admission later, miss the
opportunity of attending the orientation.
Best Practice 2
Title of the practice : Blood Donation to commemorate the Founder’s Birthday
Goal : To create an awareness that blood donation is the foremost sense of duty of every
human being which saves the lives of many at needy hours.
The Context : Blood donation camp provides an opportunity for the students to become
volunteer donors and gives them a feel of satisfaction of being responsible youth of the society.
The Practice : Blood Donation camp is organised at the college premises, in association with
Madras Volunteers Blood Bank every year on the eve of the Founder’s birthday. This year the
camp was organised on 23rd
September 2018. The camp is well planned and executed by the
student volunteers of NSS and Rotaract. During the camp, blood donors are first tested for
AQAR (2016-2017)
37
eligibility by doctors from Madras Volunteers Blood Bank. A stipulated amount of blood is
collected from eligible donors who are above 18 years. The donors are recognised for their
service with a certificate and are provided with energy refreshments after donating blood. The
donors are given permission to return home.
Evidence of success : Donating blood and motivating others to be healthy donors (we
encourage the students to bring their family, friends and relatives as donors in a “one student;
one donor’ ratio) inculcates a sense of responsibility with a better life style show an evidence of
success.
Problems encountered and resources required : The ratio of girl donors are less as they
hesitate to donate due to their fear.
