This means sometimes whenI get an ouchie my mom

This morning, while I wasplaying with my dog, I fell and

now I have an ouchie on myelbow. My mom is going to get

my medicine ready now.Why don’t you help us . . .

First, mom needs to get thefactor. Can you help us find

the box of factor?

Next, mom mixes the factorand puts it in the syringe.

Can you count three syringes?

I get my medicine through aspecial tube in my chest.Other people get their

medicine in different ways, like through their arm.

Can you find the picture ofmy chest and arms?

Now I need to get a pillow tolay on and a video to watchwhile my mom gives me mymedicine. Can you help me

About the author . . .

Kate Stentz is a Field Service Representative with Caremark Inc. and livesin Westerville, Ohio with her husband, Brian, a Caremark Regional SalesM a n a ge r, and their six-and-a-half ye a r-old son, Z a c h . When he was onlyt wo days old, Zach was diagnosed with hemophilia. A little over a year later, faced with having to infuse their toddler daily for immune tolerance, Kateand Brian knew they needed to come up with some sort of routine. Momand Dad would prepare the factor and Zach’s job was to get a pillow andpick a video. Then they would infuse. When Kate talked with other mothersin the hemophilia community about their medicine time routine, they werevery intere s t e d . Realizing there was little information ava i l able fo rpreschool children, she wrote Zachary Gets His Medicine. Kate hopes Zach’sstory will help parents explain what hemophilia and infusing are in a simple, fun, and interactive way.
