PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
PRODUCT STRATEGYThe AL Series compressor is designed for L/MBP applications. Compressor models are available for use with refrigerants R-290 (propane) in capacities ranging from 1,240 to 1,800 Btu/h at LBP and from 3,730 to 4,990 Btu/h at MBP (15.09 cm3 / 0.92 in3 to 19.95 cm3 / 1.22 in3) both EN12900 conditions.
WHY AL?Tecumseh is pleased to announce the availability of the AL, a high efficiency compressor designed specifically for light commercial refrigeration applications. The AL series is “Best-in-Class” with respect to performance, energy efficiency and physical size.
The AL series compressor meets two (2) important market needs: First, it is optimized for use with eco-friendly refrigerantR-290 (propane), secondly, the expanded L/MBP operating range allows standardized use across display cases, reach-in coolers and ice machines applications.

WHAT IS THE SAME?Tecumseh used most advanced engineering tools in AL compressor design, they are:
• CAD/CAE tools such as Finite Element Method (FEM) technique for structural analysis;
• Harmonic, Cavity and Irradiated Noise analysis for Acoustics (Noise, Vibration and Harshness - NVH);
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for thermodynamics and gas flow;
These tools provide perform the optimization of the project, be assertive with targets and reduce time of development.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?• The smallest 20 cc R-290 compressor – Design improvements;
• a new shockloop, with discharge pulsation reduction;
• new crankcase – new motor frame;
• new piston;
• new cylinder head – extra volume – startability performance and gas pulsation control;
• new valve plate design – optimized for performance and reduced leakage rate;
• new suction muffler – extra volume thermodynamic and sound improvements.
EFFICIENCYAs the world demand for energy continues to increase, compressor and system efficiency will remain as the primary market driver. AL family has a range of model with efficiency up to COP = 1.35 W/W (EER = 4.61 Btu/Wh) at EN12900 – LBP.
SOUND 50-55 dBA (direct suction system)
SIZEThe overall size of the compressor is an important requirement for light commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers as it allows them to devote more space for refrigerated goods. In general, the AL compressor is up to 5% shorter in height vs. comparable NT (Embraco), 2% SC (Secop), 3% AK² (Tecumseh) and equal to AE² compressor models. Another point to mention is that the average weight of the AL series compressor is 13 kg (28.66 lb).

APPLICATION WINDOW
For development purposes, one wide application range will be used for the primary development. Should customer specific models with specific performance characteristics be needed, all aspects of the Compressor design characteristics could come into play. This could result in narrowed operating window, reduction in the maximum operating condensing temperatures and also a modification of the applicable voltage window. These modifications and changes will need to be made in conjunction with the customer and will require a volume commitment on the part of the customer to initiate the development process.

Compressors with CSR motor:This motor arrangement uses a start capacitor added to a PSC circuit. The high starting torque is suitable forunequalized systems with capillary tube or expansion valve, maintaining the same efficiency of a PSC motor.
Compressors with CSIR motor:The motors have a high starting torque, using an electrolitic starting capacitor. Recommended for applicationswith capillary tube or expansion valve systems.
