Jianwai SOHO includes 20 high rise towers and four villas.

set the buildings on an orthogonal grid, but angled it 25 degrees off the north-south axis to maximize the towers’ sun exposure and bring daylight into all parts of the complex.

I want a piece of architecture to be a cell of a city. No matter what kind of architecture it is, it must have something to do with the city. A piece of architecture can be a house, a department store, a theatre, or an art museum, but no matter what it is, it can be a cell of the city. This cell has the ability to grow into a city.

One of the major attractions of Jian Wai is its range of apartment types, many of which offer flexible spaces that can accommodate small home offices

GROUND LEVEL LANDSCAPE

The complex has a tsunami-proof hovering structure and with its use of natural, recyclable materials, solar panels on the roof (1,400 sqm), systems to collect and reuse water and the study of exposure to sunlight and wind to keep energy consumption to a minimum, it is one of first buildings in China to be granted LEED Platinum certification.

The design for the Vanke Headquarters takes care to use renewable and recyclable materials. All the doors, floors and furniture are made from bamboo, which is easily available in the area and quickly renewable, and the carpets throughout the building are made from completely recycled material. Special windows are designed to keep the building cool by blocking solar heat while still allowing plenty of sunlight, lowering the cost of air conditioning
