3.4 Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides of the Equation

1.) Distribute

2.) Combine like terms

3.) Move the variables to one side of the equation and the constants to the other side.

4.) Solve using inverse operations

15x = 10x - 30

4.) 3x + 2 = 5x - 2x + 4

5.) 8a - 4(-5a - 2) = 12a

6.) 24a - 8 - 10a = -2(4-7a)

1. 4(3x - 10) = 10(x - 3)

2. 7x + 5 - 2x = 3x - 17

3. ½(6x + 8) + 3x = 5x + 25

Demonstrate Understanding

1.) Paul is looking at two vacation packages while planning a trip to Cancun, Mexico.

A.) In package A, round-trip airfare costs $350, and it costs $200 per night to stay at the resort. Write an expression to represent the total cost of package A. Be sure to identify what the variable represents.

2.) In the second vacation package, it costs $150 per night to stay in the resort and $600 for round-trip airfare. Write an expression to represent the total cost of package B. Be sure to identify what the variable represents.

3.) For what number of days would both package A and package B have the same price?

4.) What is the price of that vacation?

Roll the number cube to create a new equation to solve.
