Four Parts of Module 1

The Role of

Do we drive technology?Or is technology

driving us...

We need to think not just about what technology is and how we learn in it's context; but where technologies are emerging from; and how they are

changing how we learn...

What are emerging

technologies?

Veletsianos gives 5 criteria for technologies to be considered emerging:

1.They may or may not be new2.They are "evolving organisms that

exist in a state of 'coming into being'"(Veletsianos p.13)

3.They "go through hype cycles" (Veletsianos

p.14)

4.They are not yet fully understood or fully researched

5.They are "potentially disruptive but their potential is mostly unfulfilled" (Veletsianos p.16)

21st Century Learning Skills

Framework for 21st Century Learning

Perhaps it is less relevant to consider what specific technological skills

we will need and instead to do the same things that successful

humans have always done...to employ good critical thinking skills,

standards of ethics, and pliant adaptability in the face of change.

What really matters?
