SHOW ME THE WAY FOUNDATION
2010 CORPORATE PROFILE
OUR MISSION SMTWF, Inc. realizes that HIV/AIDS doesn’t recognize race, only opportunity in ignorance. Our mission is to
instill confidence, perseverance, leadership, and knowledge in youth of all races by uplifting spirits,
providing positive advice, guidance, and factual information on health awareness. SMTWF exists to provide
mentoring, educational, and positive group activities for children and teenage youth from all ethnic
backgrounds that are infected/
affected with HIV/ AIDS and or
various health disparities.
OUR PURPOSE Show Me The Way Foundation, Inc. (SMTWF) is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization based in Atlanta, GA. We
exist to support infants, children and young adults that are victims of AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome), HIV, and other terminal illnesses or diseases. Since 2004, SMTWF has focused its resources, time
and influence on developing and deploying programs that provide the education, empowerment and
emotional support for children fighting the severe effects of these ailing conditions. SMTWF has been
instrumental in proving that a positive impact on many city services can be made when we come together
and respond to destructive behavior in the community.
We serve youth who are overcoming stressors in their lives, such as poverty, discrimination, abusive
situations, addictions, unstable homes, and academic life. By utilizing the Unite for Youth Mentoring
programs we have successfully fostered positive changes in our youth through goal setting, self-discipline,
skill development, and friendship. All of these attributes and life skills have proved to be critical components
of social support systems for our young people.
The need for an organization such as SMTWF is extremely vital towards educating and embracing these
youth, allowing each child a different social and educational atmosphere for maximizing their individual
growth. By providing charity services such as Tutoring, Mentorship, Character-Development, HIV/AIDS
Education, SMTWF encourages youth participants to fulfill their dreams and provides conscience raising
activities that help them do just that.

“Show Me The Way's goal is to foster a commitment to young
people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal
skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future.
Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual
responsibility be reestablished that will give youth the commitment
to follow through on path to adulthood with a sense of pride and
accomplishment. Through repeated failures in the classroom and
the development of destructive habits, at-risk young people have
lost faith in the possibilities that await them if they are successful in
putting their lives together.
To accomplish this goal, young people must be in a caring, inclusive
learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces
personal respect.”

About Us Every year, our groundbreaking programs, S.H.E. Girls and H.O.L.L.A. Back Boys enroll 25 girls and
25 boys from the ages of 10 to 17 that have been physically and socially affected by HIV/AIDS
and/or various health disparities. With the rising number of youth that fall into this category in
Metro Atlanta, we continue to expand and develop both of these programs so that they are more
effective and more engaging. These programs are presented every summer during the month of
July at various locations. The programs provide field trips for our youth so they can experience a
side of Metro Atlanta that they normally would not have the opportunity to see.
As 2009 came to a close, Show Me The Way Foundation, Inc. added a new partnership and
outreach opportunity to better serve our communities. The alarming rates of teen violence in
metro-Atlanta communities and the staggering number of high school dropouts have captured our
attention. In addition to HIV/AIDS education, Show Me The Way Foundation will also focus on
encouraging and inspiring high school students through the
Pen or Pencil/Student No Violence Coordinating
Corporation (PP/SNCC) High School Program. The program
launch included an incredibly successful tour that was
launched by SMTWF in 2009, far exceeding the expected
turnout of high school students
Also, by partnering with the National
Alliance Of Faith & Justice we now
represent a direct response to the
growing number of young people that
are either falling through the cracks
at school or are already entangled
with the juvenile court system. We
offer at-risk youth the opportunity to
make a dramatic change in their lives. The program is positioned to be most accessible to young
people who otherwise would be swept into the juvenile court system or frequent school
detention.
SMTWF is also paving the way for adult education by giving parents the tools and resources need
to support their children that are living with HIV/AIDS and other terminal illnesses. We can deliver
one-on-one interventions to parent and guardians, as well as provide them with entertaining
documentaries and essential skills to become more knowledge and stronger supporters of their
children.
“We cannot afford to lose an entire generation of youth to
dropping out of high school, violence, and HIV/AIDS. Show
Me The Way Foundation is extremely excited to be
endorsed by DeKalb County School Board member, Dr.
Eugene P. Walker, and to partner with the National
Alliance of Faith and Justice to present the Pen or
Pencil/SNCC High School Tour” – Djuan C. Smith

Our 2009 From 6/22 – 9/11, 2009, Show Me The Way
Foundation, Inc. participated in President
Obama’s Service Initiative “United We Serve”.
"United We Serve" was a nationwide service initiative that will help meet growing social needs
resulting from the economic downturn. With the knowledge that ordinary people can achieve
extraordinary things when given the proper tools, President Obama urged the nation to come
together to help lay a new foundation for growth. This was an extraordinary moment in our
nation’s history and SMTWF was selected to represent the State of Georgia
The National Alliance of Faith and Justice has dedicated the 2009 National Learn & Serve
Challenge to the memory of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, key sponsor of the Serve
America Act.
The National Alliance of Faith and Justice dedicated the 2009
National Learn & Serve Challenge to the memory of the late
Senator Edward M. Kennedy, key sponsor of the Serve America Act.
The Edward M. Kennedy Memorial Learn and Serve Challenge
empowered young people nationwide in partnership with adults
aged 55 and older to make a difference. As a strategic partner of
SMTWF, the National Alliance of Faith & Justice has committed to
inviting new partnerships across the country as to reignite a direct
action movement. Together we are engaging a critical mass of
young people to plan and work side by side with youth who
participated in the historic Student Nonviolence Coordinating
Committee (SNCC) Movement.
Alarming rates of teen violence in metro-Atlanta communities
and the staggering number of high school dropouts has shifted
the focus of the SMTWF towards encouraging and inspiring high
school students through the Pen or Pencil / Student Nonviolence
Coordinating Committee (PP/SNCC) High School Tour, as well as
educating them on HIV/AIDS. Tashawnya Menefee, President of
SMTWF, has evolved in the path for the organization in 2010 due
to the statistics facing our youth. The Tour, which began on Oct.
5, 2009, will culminate in July 2010.

OUR PROGRAMS
Showing the way How through Education:
A program designed specifically for our young girls ages 12- 17. The
program is an eight week course consisting of 50 minute segments
consisting of open discussions, workshops, and guest speakers. The
S.H.E. GIRLS Program stands for Showing the way How through
Education. SMTWF will analyze and interpret the emotional and
psychological effects of AIDS on young teenage girls. Specially
selected guest speakers will encourage, educate, and provide
mentorship to the young ladies attending the workshops. SMTWF
believes that with education, prevention will go forward and produce young people cautious to
the dangers and alert to the responses of these actions on the body.
Helping Others Live Life Affectively Because Actions Can Kill:
A program orchestrated in support of the emotional devastation that
disreputably clouds young black males ages 12 – 17. These young men
are fathers driven by aimless hopes built on the frustration and anxiety
of being HIV positive. With the HOLLA BACK BOYS program, we
welcome the candid and at times disturbing emotions of young boys
dealing with AIDS, fear, depression, repression, and aggression. These
young boys will learn the attributes necessary to filter through
emotions and psychological burdens as a result of former decisions,
whether through unprotected sex or drug use.
“Young people in the United States are at persistent risk for HIV infection. This risk is especially
notable for youth of minority races and ethnicities. Continual HIV prevention outreach and
education efforts, including programs on abstinence and on delaying the initiation of sex, are
required as new generations replace the generations that benefited from earlier prevention
strategies. Unless otherwise noted, this fact sheet defines youth, or young people, as persons who
are 13–24 years of age.”
As stated in the August 2008 revision of the CDC HIV/AIDS Among Youth Report

2010 CAMPAIGN
What does RED stand for?
Realizing the existence of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its impact on Georgia youth
Educating the younger generation about their risk of exposure to HIV/AIDS
Developing a community plan to effect change was developed to shine a light on the
epidemic that is impacting the lives of the most precious among us, our youth
Some of the finest businesses in Metro Atlanta have partnered with SMTWF over the last 5 years to support our efforts and our mission. For 2010, we have developed a creative capital campaign that provides a dynamic platform to increase awareness of the foundation and further deepen our relationship with the Metro Atlanta community. Some of our 2010 partners include:
2010 CAMPAIGN RED: “SHOW ME” CAPITAL PARTNERSHIPS:
SMTWF Kids and their families love to eat. So what better way to support them than to partner
with the premier restaurants of Atlanta! We are partnering with several fine dining establishments
in Metro Atlanta to each set aside one day a month to show their support in our mission.
2010 CAMPAIGN RED: TOYS FOR YOUNG HEARTS:
To close out 2009, we were able to provide over 300 toys to over 100 children in the
Mechanicsville & Capitol Homes communities. In 2010, we plan to eclipse our 2009 results with a
high profile Toy Drive for even more young disadvantaged children in the Metro Atlanta area. We
will also expand our reach by partnering with local area hospital foundations to provide toys for
children that are hospitalized during the 2010 Christmas holiday season.
2010 CAMPAIGN RED: 3RD ANNUAL RED WINE AFFAIR:
Show Me the Way Foundation Is pleased to announce that our 3nd Annual RED Wine Affair will
take place in March 2010. The event is a luxury wine & cheese tasting soiree held at Glenwood
