Understanding the WeatherSome people study the weather. They are called meteorologists.They use instruments to gatherinformation about the weather.Meteorologists measure the temperatureof the air. They watch clouds form.They measure wind speed and direction.

Weather balloons carry weather instruments high into the sky.The weather instruments gatherinformation. This information helpsmeteorologists tell us what theweather will be.

A tornado is a twirling, cloudystorm. A tornado’s winds blowaround and around very quickly.

A hurricane is a very big, strong, wet storm.Hurricanes form over warm ocean water.

Sometimes weather is dangerous. Meteorologistscan be helpful at these times. They can help usknow when to get ready for a storm.
