Welcome to Margaritaville, where people come to get away from

Here is some Jimmy Bu� ett trivia to get the party started!

• Jimmy Bu� ett was born on Christmas Day, 1946 in Pascagoula,

Mississippi.

• Bu� ett’s full name is James William Bu� ett.

• Bu� ett’s parents were James Delaney Bu� ett, Jr. and Mary Loraine.

• Bu� ett is NOT related to Warren Bu� ett, no matter how many

times he called him “Uncle Warren.” � is was proven through

DNA testing.

• Bu� ett attended St. Ignatius Elementary School and McGill

Institute (now McGill-Toolen Catholic High School) and

graduated in 1964.

• Bu� ett earned a bachelor’s degree in 1969 from � e University of

Southern Mississippi. His major? History.

• Bu� ett has been married twice, most recently to Jane in 1977 to

present. He met her in � e Chart Room in Key West, Florida.

• Bu� ett wears a chain around his neck with an anchor on it in place

of a wedding ring.

• Bu� ett has three children, Savannah (1979), Sarah (1992), and

Cameron (1994).

• Bu� ett took up the guitar in college just to meet women.

• Bu� ett and the Coral Reefer Band played Mallory Square

frequently in the 1970s … for free.

• Bu� ett could not survive � nancially on his singing career in the

beginning, so he also worked as a � rst mate on many private

� shing charters.

• � e song “Cheeseburger in Paradise” was inspired while Bu� ett

was on a boat. Starving, he stopped at a marina in Tortola (British

Virgin Islands). � e overcooked burgers served to him and his

starving crew were thoroughly enjoyed.

• Bu� ett trademarked the name “Parrothead” back in 1996. It was

coined by Coral Reefer Band member Timothy B. Schmit in 1985

at a show in Ohio to describe the audience, many of whom were

wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats.

• Bu� ett was asked to be in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies but

had to turn the o� er down because of a lack of time.

• Bu� ett is a very successful author having written one anthology

of short stories, three novels, two children’s books and an

autobiography.

• Bu� ett appeared on the television show Hawaii Five-0 twice as

Pilot Frank Bama, which is the name of the main character in his

novel Where Is Joe Merchant?

• Bu� ett was introduced to Key West in 1971 by Jerry Je� Walker,

singer of the famous song “Mr. Bojangles.”

• When Bu� ett lived in Key West at one of his many residences, he

truly was 50 feet from Louie’s Backyard bar.

• Bu� ett played � e Chart Room Bar as his � rst gig. � is is where he

introduced the song “Nautical Wheelers.” Nautical Wheelers was

a square-dancing group from Key West that Bu� ett used to watch

just o� of Duval Street.
