Langston University Guidelines for Using Social Media on Behalf of the University

SocialmediaisagreatwaytoconnectwithLangstonUniversity’s(LU’s)constuents,andhasbecomeanextendedarmofmarkeng.Thoughsocialmediaisaneasymeansofcommuni-caon,itshouldbepartofanoverallcommunicaonsstrategy.

TheguidelineslistedbelowwillinformyouofproceduresforusingsocialmediaonbehalfoftheUniversity.

1.1.InyourcapacityatLU,orwhenposngonbehalfoftheuniversity,theintellectualpropertythatyoucreateandpublishtosocialmediasites(posngs,messages,etc.)isthepropertyofLangstonUniversity.

2.InyourcapacityatLU,orwhenposngonbehalfoftheuniversity,youareprohibitedfromposngcopyrightedmaterials.

3.Alluniversity,collegeordepartmentlevelsocialmediaornetworkingaccountsmustbemanagedbyanapproved,generale-mailaccountsodualroleorresponsibilityisshared.Nosingleindividualshallbere-sponsibleforasocialmediaornetworkingaccount.

4.SocialmediaornetworkingaccountsmustbeestablishedbyaDepartmentofPublicRelaonsrepresen-tave.Facebookpageswillbeestablishedbyanofficialuniversitypage,whentheestablishmentbyanoffi-cialuniversitypageisnotpossible,accountoriginatorswillestablishamemberoftheDepartmentofPublicRelaonsasanadministratororgrantadministratoraccess.

5.Allpaidplacementmarkengadversementsplacedonsocialmediasitesmustbedevelopedorap-provedbyLU'sOfficeofPublicRelaonspriortoimplementaon.

6.6.Contentmustbecurrent,reliable,accurate,andgrammacallycorrect,butmayulizeweb2.0languag-essuchas"@username",leershortcutssuchasUandR,andothergenerallyrecognizedmethodsofonlinecommunicaon.

7.Ifyouraccountremainsdormant(noacvityorposts)forthreemonths,theaccountwillbedeleted.

8.TheUniversityhastheauthoritytoeditsocialmediacontentproducedonbehalfoftheuniversityifsuchcontentiscontrarytothebestinterestsofLU.

9.9.TheUniversityhastheauthoritytodisciplineanemployeewhousesLUsocialmediaoutletstodiscloseconfidenalstudentinformaon,toimpairworkingrelaonshipsattheuniversity,orinterferewiththereg-ularworkingoperaonsoftheuniversity.Universitygrievanceprocedureswillapplytosuchdisciplinaryacon.

10.SocialMediatrainingisavailableifneeded,pleasecontacttheOfficeofPublicRelaonstoscheduletrainingatyourconvenience.
