Geography of Bulgaria

Bulgaria, officially the Republic of Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic located in Europe, in the eastern part of the Balkan peninsula, occupying 22% of its territory.

Sofia - is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria with a population of 1.4 million people. It is located in

western Bulgaria, at the foot of Mount Vitosha and is ranked as a Beta world city.

Bulgaria is part of the European Union.   The process began in 1998 and ended in September 2006. Bulgaria and Romania completed the fifth

largest European Union enlargement.
