Handling

Handling

Transport

Before installation, handle and store the device in its packaging to help to protect the Altivar Process Drive System.

Do not remove the tightening straps and do not unscrew the screws on the pallet before the device is in its final position.

WARNING INCREASED RISK OF TOPPLING Handle the enclosure with a forklift truck exclusively with tightening straps and tight connection with the pallet. Due to the high centre of gravity there is an increased risk of toppling.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury or equipment damage.

Storage

Storage temperature -25°C to 70°C

When the inverter was disconnected over a longer period, the performance of its electrolyte capacitors is reduced. But due to the "active balancing system" no special treatment of the frequency inverter is necessary when the maximum storage time has not been exceeded:

12 months at a maximum storage temperature of +50°C 24 months at a maximum storage temperature of +45°C 36 months at a maximum storage temperature of +40°C

NOTICE When the maximum storage time has been exceeded, the inverter has to be applied with mains voltage before commissioning for about one hour (forming the electrolyte capacitors) before pulse enable takes place. We recommend to execute this process already after a shutdown period of 6 months. In case of line contactor control the line contactor has to be controlled manually without applying a start command to the frequency inverter.

Protective Grounding

It is absolutely necessary to connect the inverter to protective grounding. To comply with the current regulations, use a protective conductor with at least half of the cross-section of the power supply conductors.

There is a marked terminal (bar) inside the enclosure to connect the protective conductor. Furthermore there is a marked terminal (bar) to connect the protective grounding of the motor.

WARNING INDIRECT CONTACT Only when the protective grounding conductor is proper connected, the device fulfils the requirements for protection against indirect contact. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury or equipment damage.

Check whether the resistance of the protective grounding is 0.1 Ω or less.

When several inverters need to be connected to the protective ground, each one must be connected directly to this protective ground as illustrated opposite.

CAUTION IMPROPER WIRING PRACTICES Check the electrical connections before energizing the frequency inverter. The frequency inverter will be damaged if the mains voltage is applied to the output terminals (U/T1,

V/T2, W/T3). If you replace an existing frequency inverter, please check whether the electrical connection of the

Altivar Process Drive System corresponds to the wiring instructions given in this instruction. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage.

20 NHA37119.00

Page 21: Altivar Process Installation manual - Electrocentr

Wiring

EMC Grounding

The inductance of "grounding" is extremely significant because the measurement of mains disturbances as well as the existing influences on other loads are related to ground potential. That means that ground connections with large surface, which are arranged parallel to the yellow-green protective grounding PE have to keep a minimum width of grounding lugs of 40 mm.

NOTICE Frequency inverters are a product of the restricted sales according to IEC 61800-3. In a residential environment this product can cause radio frequency interferences whereupon the user can be called on to take suitable measures.

Shield of the Motor Cable

The shield of the motor cable returns the interference currents back to the mains filter of the inverter.

Furthermore the shield of the motor cable reduces the radiated emissions as well as the coupling into neighboring lines.

Therefore, it is recommended to use shielded 4-pole motor cables and to connect the shield at both ends in accordance with the valid HF rules. The type of shield material (copper or steel) is less significant than the well connection at both ends. Alternatively, a metallic, closed and well conductive cable conduit can be used which is continuously connected.
