Ferrite MagnetsAn excellent value, ferrite magnets can be made as anisotropic or isotropic. Strontium or barium ferrites and iron oxide are used to create the material. The material is made by pressing dry powder or mixing with water to create slurry which is then compacted in a die. Heat treatment helps the material maintain its form as well as retain magnetic performance. Ferrite material has excellent corrosion resistance. Ferrite magnets have a wide variety of uses.

Applications include audio equipment, motors, fans, and hardware.

AUTOMATED COATING & PLATING PROCESS

Nickel-copper-nickel, zinc, epoxy, silver, and gold plating are all available. We are able to recommend plating/coating based on the type of magnetic material and your specific application. Our magnets are created using a fully automated coating process, ensuring precision every time.

PRECISION FORMING PROCESS

The traditional forming method starts with large blocks of material to be cut into smaller blocks. In our proprietary process, the material is formed into an arc shape similar to the final product—thus reducing waste and cost for arc-shaped magnets. These savings we pass onto you, the customer. The three unique steps in our new process are highlighted below:

Sintered Neodymium Magnets

Advanced Capabilities

Sintered neodymium is one of the most versatile rare earth magnets available. Dry granules of elemental materials are used to create sintered neodymium. Granules are compacted in a die and heated at high temperatures to fuse together. Sintered neodymium magnets are much stronger than bonded neodymium magnets but provide less flexibility in terms of shapes that can be made. Magnetic orientation for sintered neodymium is anisotropic. Neodymium magnets are lighter than samarium cobalt, however, typically they do have a lower acceptable temperature. Neodymium offers excellent value for applications that require a smaller- sized magnet. We stock patent licensed sintered neodymium magnets.

Applications include electronic, industrial, automotive, aerospace, as well as wind power solutions.

Bonded NeodymiumFor a more flexible alternative to sintered neodymium, consider using bonded neodymium magnets for your application. Bonded neodymium powder is used to create these magnets. Powder is melted and mixed with a polymer. Components are then cast or extruded to create the product. Bonded Neodymium magnets can be magnetized into complex patterns with many poles. Bonded neodymium magnets are much weaker than Sintered Neodymium magnets but gives greater flexibility in terms of shapes that are able to be made. Neodymium magnets are lighter than Samarium Cobalt, however, they have a lower acceptable temperature. Neodymium offers excellent value for applications that require a smaller-sized magnet.

Applications include automotive, home, power tools, as well as electronic industries.

Samarium CobaltSamarium cobalt is a rare earth material made by a powder metallurgical process. Manufactured using binders such as epoxy, samarium cobalt magnets are inherently very brittle. Users are discouraged from grinding material because dry remnants are a fire hazard. Some of the advantages of using samarium cobalt is that it provides excellent temperature stability and as well as excellent corrosion resistance. Because of this, typically coating or plating is not required. Samarium cobalt is excellent for operating in harsh environments were it will be exposed to the elements as well as high operating temperatures.

Samarium cobalt excels in harsh environments—common applications include marine, military, and aerospace.

CASE STUDY: CANON MAGNETIC ASSEMBLIES

Cameras use two different types of image stabilization - digital and optical. Optical image stabilization is more sensitive than digital. By combining two assemblies into one, we were able to improve this key component of their product.

The ProblemCanon’s original requirement was a shaft centerline with a magnetic orientation of 15°. Originally, Canon would first complete the mold for the axle and card. After providing the magnets, they put the pieces together in their factory. This was very inefficient—during the connection process the glue would easily move on the product. The result: the quality control failure rate was very high.

The SolutionWe were able to offer Canon a solution through a precision injection process. First, we placed a magnet in the injection mold with a guaranteed angle of 15° (+/-0.5). Second, shallow grooves were added to increase adhesion of the glue and keep it from moving over time.

The ResultCanon was able to improve quality control pass rates as well as production efficiency. Having solved this problem concerning a key component to the camera, Canon was able to move forward.
