Le début de la nouvelle année nous conduit immanquablement à regarder derrière nous et évaluer l'année qui vient de s'écouler. Force est de constater que 2011 aura été à nouveau une année où vous nous avez fait confiance car vous êtes plus de 2500 étudiants qui êtes venus rejoindre les pupitres de nos salles de classe pour y recevoir une formation en langue française! ... ou encore plus de 10000 à avoir assisté à l'un des 14 événements culturels organisés l'année dernière!

Cela nous honore et nous oblige en même temps.Et c'est pour cela que nous poursuivrons

inlassablement, en 2012, le travail engagé de recherche de la meilleure qualité de nos services pour vous qui nous manifestez votre confiance au quotidien. Et c'est encore pour cette même raison que nous nous emploierons à vous proposer des nouveautés afin de conserver et renforcer toute la vitalité de cette belle relation culturelle et linguistique franco-népalaise.

Et pour finir sur une touche poétique, je laisse le soin à Jacques Brel, grand auteur-compositeur francophone, de vous faire parvenir nos meilleurs vœux pour 2012.

The beginning of the new year brings us inevitably to look back and assess the year just ended. It is clear that 2011 has again been a year when you have trusted us because you are more than 2500 students who have joined the desks of our classrooms to learn French! ... or more than 10000 to have attended one of the 14 cultural events organized last year!

It both honors us and motivates us.And that is why we will continue

relentlessly, in 2012, the started work towards a better quality of our services for you who daily show us your trust. And it's even for the same reason that we will work on new offers to conserve and enhance the vitality of this great linguistic and cultural relationship between France and Nepal.

Mohan Gopal Khetan, membre fondateur de l'Alliance Française de Katmandou en 1994, et membre du comité directeur depuis lors, est décédé en avril 2007.

Un timbre commémoratif a été lancé en son honneur au début du mois de novembre. L'Alliance Française souhaite s'unir au chœur des félicitations à sa famille.

Né en 1947, M. Khetan a été l'un des pionniers de l'industrie au Népal. Il a non seulement fondé le Groupe Khetan, mais il a aussi contribué à la mise en place de l'université de Katmandou et s'est fortement impliqué dans "Hari Khetan Multiple Campus" of in Birgunj et "Panchthar Multiple Campus", entre autres.

Mohan Gopal Khetan, a founding member of the Alliance Française in Kathmandu in 1994 and board member ever since, died in April 2007.

A commemorative stamp was issued in his honor at the beginning of November. The Alliance Française wants to join the chorus of congratulations to his family.

Born in 1947, Khetan was one of the pioneers of the industry in Nepal. He not only founded the Khetan Group, but has also contributed to the establishment of the University of Kathmandu and was strongly involved in "Hari Khetan Multiple Campus" in Birgunj and of "Panchthar Multiple Campus", among others.

At the Alliance Française in Kathmandu, we chose a rhythm of 50 hours per session, in order to settle a step by step learning pace of the required skills and knowledge. There are 14 levels, following the program of Alter Ego and Connexions.We also use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in order to describe the level and progress of our students in accordance with a largely used and recognized scale of language proficiencies. According to the six levels of proficiency defined by the Council of Europe, students are then able to reach level A1 (Breakthrough level) after three sessions, A2 (Survival level) after 6 sessions, and B1 (the first stage of Independent User) after 10 sessions.

You can start the classes from any point: if you are not a beginner, you will just have to take a test before admission to check which level matches your proficiency.

On Valentine's day, express your love in french

The TEF (Test d’Evaluation du Français) is a certificate, issued by Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP), which is known all over the world, among international firms and educational institutions. Valid during one year, this certificate can be useful if you have higher education projects in France, if you want to be recruited in a French-speaking company or if you want to immigrate.

The TEF adapted for Quebec – TEFaQ – is the version of the TEF required by the Canadian Immigration and Communities Ministry in the case of a visa application for Quebec.

Alliance Française in Kathmandu will organize in March its first session of TEF and TEF AQ in 2012. Admissions for the session will be open during all the month of February 2012.Examination will be on 28 March

Candidates for the TEF or TEFaQ exams can benefit from a specific training program at the Alliance Française just before the exams.

The diplomatic relations established between Nepal and France in 1949 opened the door for cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries. The relation between France and Nepal covering a wide range of activities in the political, diplomatic, cultural, economic, scientific, and tourism sectors brought the people of two countries much closer. This continued well into the 1990s. However, a lull was felt in an otherwise vibrant relation after the beginning of the Maoist conflict.

Despite this long interchange, there are still no publications dedicated to France-Nepal relations. This book has been published to fill that lacuna, and is based on the interviews of 29 French nationals who came to Nepal for different purposes, for their work or interest, and eventually ended up forming special bond with Nepal and the Nepalese people. For instance, there are recollections of anthropologists Gerard Toffin, Philip Ramirez, naturalist Jean F. Dobremez, filmmaker Eric Valli, and a host of other individuals belonging to the field of politics, diplomacy, science, aviation, and arts.

The interviews were conducted in French, and the transcripts later translated into Nepali. The publication of this book in the Nepali language, we believe, will help disseminate the views and ideas expressed by eminent French nationals, and these interesting accounts of France-Nepal relationship to the wider Nepali public.

About the authorDadi Sapkota started his career as a journalist. He has written on environment and wildlife issues, is a Francophile and currently on the lookout for foreigners who love Nepal.

Et des villes si belles et si dissemblables : Montpellier, bouillonnante et cultivée, Béziers, d'une sagesse presque rurale, Sète, qui ressemble à un navire en partance.

Immenses espaces presque vides d'habitants, plateaux aux horizons sans limites, forêts encore habitées par les loups… La Lozère, ancien pays de Gévaudan, sévère et superbe comme ses légendes,

c'est la splendeur à l'état brut, celle d'une nature respectée, où l'homme n'a encore laissé que des traces légères.

Les Pyrénées-Orientales enfin, plus qu'un département, est un pays à l'identité puissante qui se souvient d'avoir appartenu au très ancien royaume de Catalogne, et reste imprégné d'une culture originale, bien différente de celle du Languedoc. Entre les sommets du Canigou et du Carlit, les vallées, les collines et les coteaux, les criques et les ports, châteaux, abbayes, villages immémoriaux et villes d'art constituent un patrimoine d'une c o n f o n d a n t e richesse.
