On the coverP10 NANOTECH IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRIES. As fossil fuels
deplete and oil and gas companies have to dig deeper and in more extreme environments, the need for advance materials with new capabilities is required. Nanomaterials are beginning to meet this need.
P07 NANOTUBE SENSORS. Nanosensor technology could signi!cantly out-perform current commercial detection devices by up to a 1,000 fold. CNTs are excellent functional materials for the development of advanced sensors. We pro!le the leading application developers.
FeaturesP04 DENDRIMERS. As with carbon nanotubes, their industrial
impact is not at the stage originally anticipated. However, dendrimers will have a major impact on the medical and sensors market and !nd niche application in a raft of other sectors.
P06 CARBON NANOHORNS. First discovered in 1999, like Carbon Nanotubes they exhibit the same graphitic carbon structure and are now being produced in large quantities.
P14 NANOTECH IN CONCRETE AND CEMENT. There is a need to create high strength and strain concrete and cement products by using new composite materials with superior properties to existing materials. The emergence of nanotechnology applications in concrete and cement is relatively recent and most developments are still in the early commercialization process.

WElcome to the four-teenth issue of Nano-tech magazine. Now in it’s second year, the
magazine is brought to you by Future Markets (www.futuremarketsinc.com), the world’s lead-ing provider of nanotechnology and nanomate-rials market information.
Following on with from our recent theme of covering nanomaterials that some-times slip under the radar,
we look at dendrimers and carbon nanohorns. Dendrimers have been touted as exceptional materials for decades. However, their applica-tion has not been as widespread as anticipated. They have been commercialized in the medical and health sectors and we examine other po-tential uses and dendrimer producers. Carbon nanohorns have recently hit the news after NEC Corporation announced a scale-up in indus-
trial production of the materials. We focus on NEC and other producers of these remarkable nanomaterials.
Sticking with the carbon theme we also pro!le application developers of carbon nanotube sensors. Sensors also feature in
our sector pro!les of nanotech in the oil and gas and in cement and concrete. Due to the challenges faced by these industries in the com-ing decades, nanotech will play a major role in their future development. We will endeavour to keep you abreast each month of developments in these and all relevant industries impacted by nano.
