REFLECTION Prayer Reflection O Lord, we thank you for allowing us to celebrate this feast which reminds us of your going before us to heaven. We long to join you in the gift of everlasting life which you gained for us in your self-giving death and resurrection. Allow us to serve your people until the day when we celebrate together the joy of your Kingdom, where you live and reign forever and ever. Amen. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT To all members of the All Saints’ School Community P&F Meeting 24 May 2017 On behalf of the school I would like to thank Senior Constable Andrew Conway for giving of his time to present a talk on Cyber Safety, Social Media and the Law for our parent community. Andrew’s talk was very informative and based on the discussion and engagement of those present, the parents who attended found it very rewarding. Thank you to the P&F for making this event a possibility. At next month’s P&F meeting, Wednesday 21 June a member of the Qld P&F Federation, Bernadette Kreutzer, has been invited to attend. Bernadette is an Executive Officer of the Qld P&F Federation. Part of her role includes accepting invitations from different school P&F Associations to share ideas and assist them in exploring other ways in which they can work to support the school and encourage more families to become more involved in the life of the school. All parents and carers are invited to attend to share their ideas and so further enrich our school community. Prep Interviews for 2018 Preps interviews will continue into next week. If any existing families have not yet completed an enrolment form please contact the Office next week. For your daughter/son to be eligible for Prep next year, they must be turning 5 before the end of June, 2018. (An extension has been added to include any students turning 5 before the end of July, 2018. Students born in this month would be considered only under special circumstances.) School Musical Performance: 21 October 2017 This week those students who successfully auditioned for the key roles in the up-coming performance, ‘Mystery at Magpie Manor’ had their first read through of the play. Mrs Schoenwald and Mrs Baker are directing the performance and they were both very excited by the enthusiasm of the students. ALL students will have the opportunity to participate in this whole school production. Mrs Eastman and Mrs Barns will be assisting with the preparation of the students. Our performance date will be Saturday 21 October. Please mark this date in your diary. School Athletics Carnival: Thursday 22 June This year, Boonah State High School are holding their Athletics Carnival in the final week of this term and given that their sporting oval is unavailable, the Council has once again given permission for schools to mark a running track on Coronation Park. result in those primary schools that have traditionally used the BSHS running track, now having to hold their Athletics Carnival before the term ends. We have booked the track for Thursday 22 June, the second last day of the term. All students will participate in this event. Friday 23 June has been marked as the date for our field events which will be held at school. More information about this event will be shared closer to the date. RIM: Reading In the Morning

Thank you to those parents, carers and grandparents who continue to volunteer their time to read to our students each morning. Our students love the opportunity to hear an adult read to them. We continue to welcome more adults to read to the students. Are you able to help?

Show Gates: Friday 2 June and Saturday 3 June Thank you once again to those families who have volunteered their time to help out on the Show Gates at next week’s Boonah Show. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to support local community events. Money raised from the service that we provide is given to the P&F to then help and support school events. Safety on the Roads While we are very fortunate to have flashing school 40km per hour signs and we have crossing signs and we have parents/carers, staff and students who are watchful and cautions crossing the road, close calls can still happen. It does not matter what age our children are we need to constantly remind them to be ever watchful as they cross a road. I know this from experience. My eldest son (who was in Yr8 at the time) was hit by a car as he crossed the road on his way home from school. He took his eye off the traffic for just one moment and was struck, resulting in his leg being broken and teeth being lost. Please remind your child/children to using the crossing and to look both ways before crossing any road. Dates to Remember:

APRE REPORT

Friday Morning Assembly

Year 2F led our assembly this morning. The children acted out the story of Zacchaeus to remind us that when we follow

Jesus we can become better people. Well done Year 2!

Prayers Please

We keep in our prayers all those who were killed in Manchester. We remember their families and friends and pray that

God’s healing touch is upon them as they grieve their loved ones.

Feast days—The Ascension

This coming Sunday the Church celebrates the Feast of the Ascension. In marking the ascension on the fortieth day of the

Easter season, the church took literally Luke’s account of events in Acts 1:3. Liturgical history indicates that the Lord’s

ascension and the giving of the Holy Spirit were originally celebrated together on the solemnity of Pentecost. It was not

Page 3: ALL SAINTS’ SCHOOL Ma… · To all members of the All Saints’ School Community P&F Meeting – 24 May 2017 On behalf of the school I would like to thank Senior Constable Andrew

until the end of the fourth century that the Ascension became a separate feast from Pentecost. Celebrating the Ascension

on a Sunday of Eastertime helps give this solemnity its rightful orientation. The Ascension is not a farewell nor is it a time

of sadness at Jesus’ departure from this world. The earlier practice of extinguishing the paschal candle on this day is

therefore quite inappropriate. Like every Christian festival, the Ascension celebrates the on-going presence of the risen

Christ in our midst. www.liturgybrisbane.net.au

Final Eucharist Sacramental Lesson—Tuesday 6 June

Thank you students for your enthusiastic participation in this week’s Sacramental preparation class with Mrs Danby. Please keep

working through your books! Our final meeting will be held in the Church on Tuesday 6 June at 6pm. The children will participate in

a final practice for First Communion and we will finish with a short Reconciliation liturgy. Please continue to keep these children and

their families in your prayers as the children receive Communion for the first time over the weekends of the 10/11 and 17/18 June.

Just a thought... Let us take one day only in hands at a time. Resolve to do good today and better tomorrow. Catherine McAuley

Have a great week ahead.
