ALL CANDIDATES ATTENDING FOR INTERVIEW A warm welcome to Wadham College and to Oxford. Please take the time to carefully read the following important information. We hope you enjoy your short stay with us and good luck with your interview(s)! Student hosts will also staff a welcome desk in the JCR( during the day; these helpers should be able to assist with most enquiries. If your arrival is delayed until after midnight, the Night Porter can be summoned by ringing the bell at the gate. Accommodation The College is divided into staircases as marked on the map at the back of this leaflet. Each staircase contains a variable number of rooms, some are single and some are double sets consisting of a large sitting room with 2 adjoining small bedrooms. Staircases are numbered 1- 32 (there is no staircase 8, 16 or 17) and additionally there are the following named staircases: Kings Arms, Holywell Court and Library Court (Upper and Lower). There are toilets and bathrooms and/or shower rooms on all staircases. Staircases 1, 4-9 are en-suite. On staircase 11 toilets and bathrooms are in the basement. Bedding, linen and towels are provided in all rooms. Facilities You will find an emergency telephone on your staircase which will automatically dial the Lodge. Free calls can be made to other University extensions. If you would like wireless internet access, you can connect to The Cloud’. If you have not previously registered with The Cloudyou will need to create an account the first time you connect. There are card operated washing machines and driers as well as ironing facilities in the Laundry located in the JCR Quad. The correct number for telephone messages is 01865 277900. Telephones messages will be kept with the mail in the Lodge. Only in the case of urgent telephone messages will the Porter on duty attempt to deliver them personally.

Meals

The followings meals are provided free of charge:

Weekday meals

Weekend meals (All served in the New Refectory)

If you have any dietary requirements, please ensure that

you make us aware of this, in advance of your arrival, via

the on-line applicants’ survey.

If you are due to be interviewed over a lunch or dinner

period then please contact a student host who will be

able to help you contact the Head Butler or Deputy Head

Butler (or in their absence, the Lodge) as soon as

possible to make alternative meal arrangements. Soft

drinks will be provided in the JCR lounge each evening.

Dinner 1900 – 1945 Hall

Sunday 8 December Dinner 1800-1830

Fire and Security

There are fire notices in every bedroom or bed-sitting room and a fire alarm on all staircases

and in all rooms. Please acquaint yourself with the instructions in case of fire. Fire alarms are

connected to the Lodge. Any fire incident should be reported to the Lodge on the Emergency

Number – 77999. There are no planned fire alarm tests during your stay so you must evacuate

on hearing the fire alarm.

Although thefts are rare, you are strongly advised not to leave valuables or money in your room

and never to leave your room unlocked. If you have a large amount of money you are

recommended to ask the Head Porter to keep it in the safe in the Lodge. Oxford is no more

dangerous than other large towns but you are advised not to go out alone after dark and, in any

case, to keep to well-lit streets. If you are required to go to another College for interview after

dark, please contact one of the student helpers to ask if someone can accompany you. If you

go out, please ensure you are back by 11pm at the very latest.

Please note that it is against the law for someone under 18 to buy alcohol, attempt to buy

alcohol or to be sold alcohol.

General

Please remember that staff and students will still be working in the College during the interview

period. There will also be other candidates who will be preparing for their interviews. Please do

not disturb them. You are expected to be in your host college throughout the minimum interview

period (as specified in your interview letter). If for any reason it is necessary for you to leave

before this time, please let the Tutor for Admissions know so that we do not become anxious

about your whereabouts and we can account for you in an emergency.

The Accommodation and Events Officer is usually on duty from 09:00 to 17:00. Any difficulties

or requirements concerning rooms should be reported to her, the Head of Housekeeping,

staircase cleaner or Lodge. Please speak to a student helper initially and they will be able to

contact a member of staff for you.

Academic and Admissions Office

The staff in the Academic Office are available to help with any enquiries/problems relating to

interviews, and your student hosts will be in regular contact with the office on your behalf.

Opening hours are 09:00 – 17:00. Outside these hours please speak to your student hosts or to

the Lodge, who will be able to make any necessary contact.

Vacating Rooms

Please vacate your room by 10am on the day you expect to leave Oxford. If you are unsure of whether you will be leaving that day, please pack up your belongings and leave your luggage in the corner of the room, so that the room can be cleaned. Do not check out (i.e. return your keys) until you are certain that you are leaving. You will still have access to your room until you check out, but please do not use the bed until you are sure you will be staying another night.
