“We would like to respectfully acknowledge the Bundjalung people who are the Traditional Custodians and First Peoples of the Land on which our school stands.”

In literacy this week Buribi have been learning all about onomatopoeia. We have learned that

onomatopoeia is a word that mimics the sound of the object or action it refers to. When you

pronounce a word, it will mimic its sound. We watched a video that has lots of different sounds and

then we had to write as many new sounds that we could think of on our whiteboards. Some of the

sounds we thought of were, quack quack, boing, tic tock, whoosh and boom! We had lots of fun

mimicking the sounds and working out how we would write them down! Today we are going to make

a comic strip and include some of our favourite words that we brainstormed yesterday.

BE SAFE. BE A LEARNER

PBL for Week 5

Take turns to talk.

Use inside voice.

Principals Address

Last week I attended a principal’s conference at Coffs Harbour. The theme of the conference

was called an “Insight into Leadership” and had inspiring keynote speakers such as Rabia Siddique, who is an

Australian criminal and human rights lawyer, who spent time in Iraq as a British Army Officer and hostage. Her

story is one of empowering everyone to lead and make a difference. Other workshops included the “Future of

Education” and “Engaging Boys in Learning.” We allocated time at yesterday’s

Professional Learning meeting to pass on this information to staff.

We would like to welcome Mrs Lauren Battese who will fill in for Ms Coyle for the

remainder of the term in our Instructional Leader position. Mrs Battese is available to

talk to parents regarding concerns with student process in literacy and numeracy and

will be spending time in our classrooms focussing on quality teaching.

Performing arts

It is one week until our children perform at the Performing Arts Festival on WEDNESDAY EVENING PERFORMANCE 24/8/16. We had a dress rehearsal this afternoon and the children were awesome. Our whole school final rehearsal will be at the Lismore Workers Club on Tuesday, 23rd of August. We will be catching a bus to and from the Workers Club Lismore on the Tuesday for the rehearsal and Wednesday evening for the performance. Students will stay at school on the Wednesday afternoon. Children received a permission note yesterday. This note MUST be ticked, signed and returned with $15.00 for your child to perform in the festival.

TICKETS Tickets are on sale from Lismore Workers Club. There will be no seating plan. Ticket prices for 2016 are: Adult: $14 Child $6 The 22nd of September has been gazetted a half day public holiday for the Lismore Race Day for those school in

Lismore. School will be open until 12.00. We will send a note home closer to the date asking for details as to

how your child will be getting home. We are presuming buses will run at the earlier time but this has not yet

been clarified.

Absences

This is a reminder of the importance of attendance at school. We are due for a Home School Liaison check and

follow up. If your child is absent regularly there will be a note sent home. After this note, if absences continue to

occur the HLSO will need to become involved. If your child is late, he/she needs to report to the school office for

a late note. Unfortunately, unless there is a valid reason, this will mean that an unexplained partial absence is

recorded in the class roll.
