School uniform builds school pride

The current formal and sports uniforms were revamped this year to better cater to the needs of our students to participate comfortably and actively in all aspects of school life The school uniform and expectations of students wearing it is an agreement made with the PampC and is detailed in the Parent Handbook and on the website

It is great to see how active many of our students are as they take advantage of the range of opportunities to play during breaks They are also enthusiastic during sport PE and dance all times when freedom of movement is important as it builds physical fitness confidence and skills

Photos and descriptions are featured in this Herald all of these look very smart are comfortable and are commented on favourably by visitors and parents looking to enrol their children

We have noticed that skirts have begun to be worn and would appreciate families ensuring their children wear the shorts or skort instead Skirts restrict movement and are not part of the uniform

Some students have shoes that arenrsquot completely black this is very noticeable and detracts from the overall presentation of our school The black shoes required are comfortable flexible and safe enabling students to participate in all school activities

Whilst it is coming to the end of the year it is expected that the uniform standard is maintained and I would ask parents to ensure their children are dressed in the correct attire

Supervision of students before and after school

The question of who is responsible for students outside of the school hours of 830 am to 300 pm is sometimes raised Students are encouraged to arrive at school as close as possible to 830 am in the morning If an earlier time is necessary students should be booked into Outside School Hours Care as this provides a safe environment for children

Staff are not rostered on during this time as it is outside of their work hours and they are busy preparing for the day

In the afternoon many parents remain on the school grounds until the traffic clears This is certainly a wise move It is also a time for friends and families to catch up again a great decision as schools are a community that provides opportunities for social interaction

If parents are remaining past 300 pm please supervise your children as school supervision is not possible (except for the bus and pickup zones as this is a safety issue) Expectations of student behaviour that apply during the day are applicable whenever students are on site and I would ask parents to make sure they are doing the right thing

Our hard working School Officers are particularly concerned when students play in the gardens on

the banks of the oval and in the out of bounds areas near the rear entrance Sticks and stone have

been thrown on the oval and this is dangerous during play time and when mowing is taking place

Please keep an eye out and remind all children of these expectations and we can all have a happy end

to the school day

YEAR 5 CAMP AT ALEXANDRA HEADLANDS

In Week 2 this term the Year 5s went on camp to Alexandra Headlands on the Sunshine Coast

We did leadership activities and I was in the Stingrays group My favourite activity was the dominoes We had to set up a domino trail to fill the whole room and then make them fall over It worked perfectly

We had a balloon tower challenge and Seamusrsquo group won We went to the beach and played a game where you had to get under the stick by digging a hole in the sand Harperrsquos group won that challenge We also swam in the pool and we tried to make a whirlpool That was lots of fun

For breakfast the food was really good We ate hash browns bacon and toast My favourite dinner meal was the chicken schnitzel

Year 5 camp was really fun and exciting Thank You to all the teachers who took us to Alexandra Headlands

YEAR 5 COMPOSTING SYSTEM

The Year 5 composting system is when we have a white bucket in the centre of the eating area We use the fruit and veggie scraps to make compost for the gardens in this school This helps give the plants the nutrients to grow faster If you do not know what to put in the white bucket ask the composting people sitting near or next to the white bucket To give you an idea here is a small list of things allowed inside the bucket

banana skins

watermelon Skins

apple cores

stalks off grapes

No whole fruit is permitted

Lately we have been seeing fellow students eating fruit and vegetables However when we look in the composting bucket there appears to be either nothing or very few scraps When we look inside the green wheelie bin it is full of fruit scraps

So we ask for you to make the effort to put your fruit scraps in the white bucket in the middle of the eating area Thank you
